Hello everyone, this is the 《Mika & Luna》 development team.
Some time has passed since the game launched.
First of all, we want to thank every viewer who has played the game, left a comment, or helped us by reporting issues — thanks to your active feedback and thoughts, we have even more motivation to keep telling the story of these two sisters.
Before we get into the actual update details, we would like to explain the preparations we have made during this time:
Recently we received a lot of feedback about issues with the game, and among them, the optimization problems players encountered while running the game were given particular attention. Since none of our team members are programmers, we turned to some tools and advice from friends to optimize part of the underlying mechanics of the game development software.
Fortunately, this set of problems has been resolved for the time being. If you previously ran into situations where the game wouldn't open, showed a black screen, or ran with severe stuttering, we hope this update will let you see Mika and Luna perform more smoothly.
Of course, the underlying optimization work took up the vast majority of our time and energy, but we also tried out some new presentation methods and have made a short side story to be released between main chapters — the [Interlude 01] update. Here are the details of this update notice:
Ver. 0.1.2 Update Notice
New Story Chapter · Interlude 01 "The First Step to Becoming a Hero"
The [Interlude] update mentioned in the previous notice has now been implemented.
This is a standalone side episode with almost no direct connection to the main story. We hope it brings fun beyond the main plot and lets us explore more imaginative possibilities.
Mika, who always messes up the recordings, and her sister Luna, who does nothing but play games — this time, the two sisters are thrown into the world of a game by the Demon of "Media." To return to the real world, there is only one way: clear the game.
And so, the two of them begin their reluctant adventure in another world.
(The interlude and the main story chapters do not affect each other — we hope you can relax and get a good laugh out of it.)
How to access: After clearing Chapter 1 of the main story, you can choose to enter Interlude Ex.01. (We will also improve the selection rules and readability of the chapter selection screen in future updates.)
⚠️ Note: Due to underlying changes to the program, after this update, players who have already cleared Chapter 1 will need to clear it again for things to display properly. This issue will not happen again in the future. (We recommend holding Ctrl to fast-forward.)
New · English/Japanese Multilingual Support
This update adds English and Japanese language options, which can be freely switched from the game's title screen.
The English and Japanese text in this update was produced using AI translation and polishing, and is a temporary version.
Based on feedback from overseas users, we have added this feature in this update, and will continue to support it in future story chapters. We will keep refining the translation quality when we have the chance. If you find any awkward translations, please leave a comment and let us know.
Performance Optimization & Bug Fixes (the focus of this update)
In this update, we put a great deal of effort into optimizing the game's resource usage, with the goal of letting more device configurations run the game smoothly:
Character art assets now load separately by scene and character
We found that the underlying mechanics of the game development software load all of a chapter's resources at runtime, which prevented the game from running smoothly on some devices. So we optimized the underlying system so that it no longer reads all of the game's character art into memory at once.
Optimized resource loading and release timing
Following on from the previous item, with the help of some tools, we implemented something like streaming loading, aiming to make the game run more smoothly and reduce stuttering.
These changes are mainly to solve the startup issues, black screens, and stuttering that players face now — and will face for a long time as our story updates continue.
Ver. 0.1.2 Patch Notes
Bug Fixes
Fixed the all-black screen at the game's opening / when starting the game
Fixed the issue where F12 could not take screenshots in the Steam environment (after this update goes live, we hope you can help test and report whether this issue has been resolved)
Corrected typos and punctuation issues in the story
Unified some character names and terminology
FAQ
Q: When is the next update coming?
A: We are very sorry to keep you waiting. We are working at full force on Chapter 2 of the main story, and the second interlude is also in preparation. Once we have a confirmed schedule, we will update you right away.
Q: Will you consider adding voice acting in the future?
A: Yes, voice acting has always been in our plans. However, the team's current focus is still on producing content. We would like to begin preparing for voice acting once the story is longer and more substantial.
Q: Will the game stay free?
A: Yes. All future content updates for 《Mika & Luna》 will remain free.
That is everything in this update.
We know what everyone wants to see most is the continuation of the main story. Please believe us — no one wants to finish telling their story more than we do. The script for Chapter 2 is being pushed forward and polished little by little, and we only hope we won't disappoint you when it finally meets you.
Thank you to everyone who is willing to wait for us.
