Hello everyone!
Time to talk about one of the more unusual aspects of Broken Frontier: the mutated flora that has taken over much of post-Catastrophe Oregon.
With the Catastrophe striking Earth around a hundred years ago and permanently changing the planet, many humans survived by sheltering in bunkers, but plants and animals were left exposed to the full impact of the event. Forced to adapt to nutrient-poor soil and a hostile environment, they evolved in dramatic ways. Some plants developed carnivorous traits to survive and eventually grew to enormous sizes.

One of the earliest concepts that inspired us was the giant hogweed. This invasive species can already be found in Oregon and has an intimidating appearance even in real life. Naturally, we decided to take things much further.
The idea was multiple giant hogweeds basically fusing into a single massive organism, something the team jokingly dubbed "Hogweed Prime." These towering plants have become a valuable resource in the world, providing rare ingredients for players brave enough to harvest them.

Not every mutated plant announces its presence so clearly, however. You might be walking through a peaceful-looking corn field when a Corn Senior suddenly emerges from the crops. We hope that encounters like these make exploration less predictable and constantly keep players on their toes.
Some plants have grown so large that they serve as World Bosses. One example is the Piranha Plant, a gigantic predator capable of summoning minions, sweeping across the battlefield, pulling players into danger, and unleashing powerful area attacks. The encounter is still being developed, and we're continuing to refine its mechanics.

We look forward to showing more of Broken Frontier's dangerous ecosystem in future devblogs!
