Hey everyone, Windybeard here with another Oceanborne update.
It’s been a little while since the last update, but development has been progressing incredibly well. There have been lots of new additions, upgrades and changes to Oceanborne, so I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.
Islands: Every island is its own adventure
Every island in Oceanborne has its own story, characters, resources, secrets and adventures to discover. One of my personal favourites is Wreckwater Lagoon, home of the Tuskers, a race of walrus pirates who have set up their base on the island. Unfortunately, their home has fallen into disrepair and a lot of their treasure has gone missing. It’s up to you to help them fix the place up and track down what they’ve lost.

Earlier in the game, you’ll unlock the ability to dig for buried treasure. Along the way you’ll find some strange items called "Mystery Coins". When you eventually reach Wreckwater Lagoon, they won’t be quite so mysterious anymore. Help the Tuskers and you’ll eventually gain access to their treasure trove, where a rather large chest is waiting for you.
Inside?
A cannon.
Ocean: Explore, discover and blow things up
The ocean in Oceanborne is your world map. You can sail freely, discover new islands, find treasure and uncover all sorts of secrets along the way. Hidden throughout the world are 8 Island Heart gems. Finding them opens up more of the ocean, giving you new places to explore.
And now you have another way to explore. The new cannon lets you blast through rocks and reach previously inaccessible areas. It’s also just one of the boat attachments you’ll unlock during your adventure.

Water: A visual upgrade
I’ve spent a lot of time recently working on how Oceanborne looks and feels to explore, with a particular focus on the water. The ocean is obviously a pretty important part of a game called Oceanborne, so it felt like it deserved a serious upgrade.
I’m really happy with how the new water is coming together. What do you think?
OLD...
NEW..
New System: Collecting
I LOVE collecting things in games, so naturally Oceanborne has plenty of it.
I’ve recently started work on a game-wide collection system that keeps track of the upgrade badges you’ve found, unlocked or crafted, as well as the resources you’ve Researched. Collect enough of certain resources and you can eventually make them infinite, along with gaining some useful stat boosts.
The system also keeps track of ALL of the items in the game, which should hopefully make completionists like myself very happy.
And there’s more to come.
The Beginning of the Adventure
I’ve also started work on the introduction to Oceanborne. Oceanborne is a story. It’s an adventure.
The game begins in a cosy room overlooking the ocean, where the story begins being read from a book. The pages turn, the scene is set, and the adventure begins.

I’ve also completed a HAND-DRAWN illustration for Oceanborne that I feel really captures the spirit of the game.
And just to make it clear, there are NO AI assets in Oceanborne. Everything is being created with a lot of time, care and love.
That’s all for this update
That’s everything for this month. Oceanborne is getting bigger and more detailed with every update, and I’m really happy with where the game is heading. There are still lots of islands to build, things to discover, systems to add and secrets to hide.
I can’t wait to show you more.
If Oceanborne looks like your kind of adventure, please consider adding it to your Steam wishlist. It really helps support development and means Steam will let you know when there’s news and when the game is ready.
And if you want to follow development more closely, come and join the Windybeard Discord. I share development screenshots, videos and progress updates there much more regularly.
Thanks so much for reading and for supporting what I’m building.
And if you haven’t already...
Add Oceanborne to your Steam wishlist.
I’ll see you on the next update.
Anthony
