Hello, monster-lovers.
Art assets have taken a lot longer to get complete than we first expected, but they are finally reaching completion, and a lot of other bits of development have been chugging along nicely.
Big Completed Things
The following chunks of code have been completed and cleaned up over the last few weeks.
Managing/Purchasing Business Upgrades
Recruitment Screen/Hiring Behavior
Shop Inventory/Restocking
General Item Use Behavior
Inventory Management/Sorting
Story/Cutscene Replay Screen
Story Progress
The main story has been completed, broken into 10 episodes that are scattered throughout the player's first playthrough.
The individual worker bonding stories, which contain 5 episodes each, are mapped out but we're still in the process of writing them. Converting them to a JSON readable format is its own separate headache. I wouldn't say it's difficult, but it is certainly tedious.
UI/Miscellaneous
There's a lot of other smaller scripts and functions that have also been cleaned up and consolidated, but they don't fit neatly into a category and to be blunt there's far too many to list.
The biggest issues, at least from a coding standpoint, are mainly in work phase calculations and the handling of worker level ups. Workers have a combination of stats (Vitality, Charm, Tidiness, Patience and Style) and the exact math requires a lot of fine-tuning. It's certainly the least straightforward to implement, and we'll probably go through a handful of different caclulations to see which one feels the best.
The other thing that's taking up a considerable amount of time is UI design. The UI displayed on the Store page is definitely a work in progress. We've been looking at a lot of different games, indie games and AAA titles and gacha games to try to get a feel for what might look best. The system works at the moment, but it's not as polished as it needs to be before release.
That's it for this log. The following is a piece of fan art from the artist "OLIVE" of Len, one of the recruitable workers from the game. We'll be showing off more visuals of the characters as they're completed.
