Who wins when no one believes? And is that person actually the villain? This thought has been living rent-free in the head of our CEO Chris for 20 years.
Back then, he was playing D&D 3rd Edition and built a min-maxed Lawful Neutral Cleric. Death and Destruction domains, no patron deity, heavy plate armor, shield. An unkillable tank who could still heal and hurt with his touch. Classic rules-lawyer exploit.
But the game master saw a narrative hook where Chris saw a spreadsheet.
Deep into the campaign, they discovered the truth. There WAS a deity watching Chris’ character. Not a god of faith. A deity that fed on disbelief. His cleric was the champion of a new era, powered by the idea that humanity had finally outgrown divine intervention. A mechanical exploit became the philosophical anchor of the entire campaign.
That question stuck with Chris for two decades: What actually happens to old gods when the world stops caring?
We are building a card game around that answer right now. A world where belief is the most contested resource. Where forgotten gods sling cards across three lanes to fight for influence. Where every bond you forge with a fellow deity changes your deck and your strategy. And at the center of it all, there is an entity that benefits from the silence. From the scrolling past. From the quiet erosion of giving a damn. Meet the Matron of Nothing. More on that soon.
If you read to the end without reacting, don't worry. You're not ignoring us. You're just playtesting the mechanic again! 🔥
Speaking of playtesting... thank you so much for helping us test Petty Ungodliness! 💫 We've now got a nice list of fixes and ideas to work through, and for now won't be accepting more playtest requests on here.
But if there's a will - there's a way... 😏 If you absolutely can't wait to try Petty Ungodliness, come to our Discord, we've got an idea: https://discord.gg/yrUYXq25Cr
