⚠️ WARNING: This update includes a core gameplay rework. Legacy low-strategy match data has been archived; complete 1 tutorial run after updating to unlock the new advanced rules.
Addressing player feedback regarding insufficient strategic depth, we have completely rebuilt the Balatro-Texas-Hold’em hybrid loop, increasing decision density by 400%—every card now impacts survival.
🎮 Core New Mechanic: Championship Season Advanced Rules
Analysis of 1.27 million legacy matches revealed carbon units averaged only 0.3 decisions per second—well below screening standards. All official stages now follow this new flow:
Starting Hand Split: Receive 6-8 starting cards (cap increases with stage progression). Select 4 cards: 2 for the Big Blind group, 2 for the Small Blind group. Both groups settle separately, encouraging differentiated builds—e.g., Big Blind for high-multiplier hands, Small Blind for stable base scores. No more mindless “chase the flush” gameplay.
Dynamic Community Cards + Mid-Match Tech Draws: The AI dealer deals 5 community cards. After the 2nd and 4th community cards, a 3-choice Tech Card selection pops up. You must decide in real time: pick Data Stream Amplifierto complete your hand, or EM Pulseto disrupt the AI dealer’s potential high-scoring combos. Decision stakes are drastically higher.
Dual Settlement System: Both blind groups score independently; total score after Tech/Weapon/Cyber-Joker buffs must meet stage targets to clear. Out-of-run progression updated: unlock higher hand caps and extra Tech Card slots upon stage completion for deeper combo building.
🛠️ Supporting Optimizations
Added blind group preview UI: view estimated scores for both groups while selecting cards to reduce learning curve
Optimized 3-choice Tech Card weighting: eliminated edge cases where all 3 options were low-value, ensuring every choice matters
Adjusted stage target score curve: 15% lower targets for early stages, 22% increase per stage thereafter for balanced onboarding and challenge
Added post-match replay: review score contribution of every decision to refine build logic
🐛 Bug Fixes
Fixed score overflow when Cyber-Joker shards stacked with Texas Hold’em hand multipliers
Fixed incorrect diminishing returns calculation for consecutive duplicate Tech Cards
Fixed rare “unprompted fold” logic bug for AI dealers on high-difficulty stages
Optimized animation frame rate for hand selection on low-end devices to prevent stuttering
📌 Player Notice
Legacy saves are compatible; new mechanics unlock after completing the tutorial. All Championship Season leaderboards have been recalculated under the new rules—top 800 players per season retain uptown residency, but this time, it’s earned through strategy, not luck.
