Hello Sector Commanders,

This update focused heavily on multiplayer foundations, long-term gameplay systems, and major combat mechanics.
A lot of work also went into UI refactors, travel systems, and overall game structure behind the scenes.

Multiplayer & Online

Multiplayer support has taken a major step forward.

Steam Integration

• Added Steam integration

• Steam lobbies are now fully functional

• Multiplayer traffic can now run through Steam networking

Build Version Validation

Lobbies now validate:

• Game version

• Internal checksum

This prevents incompatible clients from joining the same session.

Save & Load System

A full save/load system has been implemented:

• Improved save management UI

• More reliable and robust save handling

Mission System

The game now includes a mission framework with:

• Objectives and targets

• Rewards

• Progress tracking

This lays the foundation for future contracts, faction tasks, and story-driven content.

Travel & Movement

New Hyperspace System

Hyperspace travel has been reworked to feel cleaner and more readable.

Improved Travel Mechanics

General movement and travel behavior have been refined and expanded.

Improved Transponder Logic

Ships now properly identify themselves through transponders - broadcasting who they are and which empire they belong to.

Turning your transponder off allows you to move covertly, but now comes with real consequences.

Detection States

Ships can now appear as:

• Hidden

• Scanner blips

• Unidentified contacts

• Fully identified vessels

A ship running dark no longer becomes invisible - it becomes suspicious once spotted.

Empire Patrol Response

Empires now actively investigate unidentified contacts inside their territory:

• Patrol ships can intercept suspicious vessels

• Police stops can occur

• Players may choose to comply or resist

Consequences Matter

Being caught while running dark can result in:

• Fines

• Bounties

• Damaged relations with empires

Battle Readiness Mechanic

Ships now have a new combat state called Battle Readiness.

This represents the ship’s ability to remain operational during prolonged combat.

How It Works

Battle readiness:

• Drops during combat

• Recovers outside combat

• Is affected by ship condition and supplies

Damaged or poorly maintained ships become less reliable over time.

Low Readiness Effects

At low readiness, ships may suffer temporary combat failures:

• Turrets stop firing

• Engines fail temporarily

• Shields shut down

This encourages players to:

• Rotate damaged ships out of battle

• Maintain supply lines

• Avoid endless attrition fights

AI ships are also affected by the system.

Sensor & Detection Rework

The detection pipeline has been heavily refactored and expanded.

This improves:

• Fog of war behavior

• Sensor tracking

• Detection alerts

• Visibility consistency during combat

Characters

A new character system has been added.

Players can now manage:

• Captains

• Governors

• Traits

• Assignments to ships and planets

UI & Screens

A large portion of the interface has been redesigned or rewritten.

New Screens

• Planet View

• Trade Screen

• Inventory System (rewritten + v2)

• Market Menu

• Balance Menu

• Main Menu with multiplayer setup and Steam integration

UI Improvements

• Standardized panel layouts

• Improved visual consistency

• Clearer zone boundary indicators

Environment

New asteroid assets have been added for:

• Environmental hazards

• Space visuals

• Future gameplay interactions

Miscellaneous

• Balance improvements

• General polish

• Bug fixes

• Internal refactors and cleanup across multiple systems
