Greetings, testers. Today's update fixes a number of minor visual and gameplay bugs reported to us, as well as adding a couple of new gameplay options to tweak your experience.
Technical Changes
Certain crashes related to tilemap textures will display a more informative error message when detected
"Automatic" control mode should more accurately reflect the last received input event
Attempt to capture additional debugging information when Vulkan reports a "device lost" error
Update the Steam API to v164 - no significant functionality changes
Gameplay Changes
Added two new options, "Infinite Lives" and "Disable Checkpoints" that can be toggled from the options menu, either from the main menu or on the overworld
Infinite Lives does just as it says - extra life objects will still spawn but will have no effect when collected
Disable Checkpoints is intended to make it slightly more convenient to grind out faster level times, as dying will completely reset the state of the level, including the timer and any collected gems
Fixed a few bugs around the extra lives count not being correctly saved or restored upon loading a game or completing a level
Fixed a bug where post-level cutscenes would not play as expected after completing certain levels for the first time
Hitting the Cancel action on a controller closes the Story menu rather than completely exiting the game
Opening the Steam Overlay will pause the game when in a level
Visual Changes
Corrected a bug where a previously-activated checkpoint would continue spinning even if it was not the active checkpoint
The "selected" story in the Story menu now glows as intended
Preference sliders fade in and out with their parent menu as expected
Confirmation dialog graphics correctly reflect the current world
Particle effects are properly cleaned up after dying or when leaving a level for any reason
Particle effects will pause alongside the rest of the game state
Corrected the relative size of a few miscellaneous graphical effects
Spike traps in World 4 show the correct angles on the spikes
As usual, beta3 will remain available on a public branch. Please report any issues you have to the bug report discussion forum!
