Hey!
Before taking a break from Joker Madness development, I decided to push out one more update. If you run into any crashes or bugs — please post in the Community, I'll try to fix everything ASAP!
⚠️ Important for Mac users: I'm currently having issues with my developer.apple account and waiting for a response from their support. So this update is WINDOWS ONLY FOR NOW, but the Mac version will follow as fast as humanly possible. Sorry for the inconvenience!
🃏 6 New Jokers
6 more beauties are now available in the Joker Shop. Let me walk you through each:
Joker — Jokatro
Yes, this Joker is a nod to a certain game everyone loves! Here's how it works: after activation, the lowest card in your hand becomes Jokatro. It's worth 0 points itself and can't be part of combos. But from that moment on, what matters isn't the card itself — it's its neighbors. The card to its left becomes the "Donor," and the card to its right becomes the "Beneficiary." The Donor passes its value to the card on the right of Jokatro as a Mult, multiplying the Beneficiary's score by its own value.
Let's say you have 7 (left) — Jokatro (center) — K (right). That means K (assuming it's not killed or anything else weird) is worth not 10 but 70 points! And K can still be combined with other effects (like Dancer) and used in Combos. Overall, a really cool strategic card that you'll want to move around the board depending on the situation.
Joker — Balatness
Yep, this one's also a nod to our favorite game! Here's how it works: after activation, every 4 turns each player gets a random (heh, well, almost) charge that can be applied to one of their playing cards on the field (if it's alive!). There are 4 effects:
・Foil: adds +10 points to the card ・Polychrome: gives the card a x3 multiplier ・Holo: gives x3 to the combo bonus multiplier if the card is part of a combo ・Negative: lets the card participate in two combos at once (you could form, say, 2 Flushes in a row)
The card works similarly to Switcher from update 1.2: click the card when it's charged, then choose where to apply!
🎨 By the way: both of these cards were drawn not by some "soulless machine" but by a real, living pixel artist — Patriversal!
Joker — Prism
This card lets you form Flushes, Straight Flushes, and Royal Flushes from cards of the same color (e.g., diamonds and hearts together, or spades and clubs).
Joker — Prometheus
A hard-protection card. After activation, the lowest card on the field without an additional effect becomes the protector. It's worth 0 itself, but it protects the cards on its left and right from everything happening on the field: any kills, any debuffs. But once a card leaves the protection, it IRREVERSIBLY inherits all the effects its unprotected siblings received!
Joker — King Slayer
This card does something fairly simple: it kills all Kings on the field and turns all 2s into Kings. But there's a twist — a new combo has been added to the game: Five In A Row (not to be confused with Five Of A Kind). Thanks to this Joker and some manipulation with others, you can pull off, say, a Five In A Row of Kings!
Joker — Adam Smith
The antidote to Karl Marx. Simple: if Stonks prices were frozen by Marx and you're not happy about it — play Adam Smith, and prices will start moving again!
🌐 Madness Mode in PvP
Online play used to be available only in Strategy mode. Now it's available in Madness mode too.
More chaos — more fun!
Honestly, this is a big update! But I don't really know what else to write about it — just play it.
🎴 3 New Decks
3 new decks have been added to the Joker Shop. Just in case the current ones weren't enough, heh.
⚔️ New Challenges & Stats
First, 11 more challenges have been added to the game, and many of them are pretty brutal.
Second, you can now view stats on which challenges you've completed and which you haven't. By the way: to make sure you can actually finish them all, I added a special mechanic so you don't keep getting the same completed challenge rolled for you (though after some time it can happen again).
✨ Also:
・The Stonks window has been significantly enlarged ・Your opponent's name now shows up in PvP ・Many glyph rendering issues fixed
📣 A minute of self-promo
I also have a game called THE DOUBLE — a psychological horror based on a Dostoevsky novel, and yes, there are cards in it too! The first Chapter is free, and there's a separate mode that's just card gameplay, no story. Chapter 2 is also coming, but later. Would love it if you gave it a try.
And please wishlist my upcoming game — Spin Cycle! It's an economic strategy with roguelite elements where you play as an accountant for the criminal underworld. A cool Japanese magazine has even written about it! More details coming much later.
