TLDR: This update features a crane that salvages sunk squadron ships, a overhaul of rudders, new superstructures and dragging improvements.
Hi everyone, another week and another major update. This one has an experiment with a fun new sandbox activity, salvaging wrecks. I needed a bit of a break from major features, so this is the result. And if you ask "why Tomas are you adding gameplay to a sandbox without goals", then my answer is... "wait and see" :)
I also want to give a headsup to the nr 1 complained about issue, the lack of an item picker in the interface. Clearly I hear you, and starting today that is the nr 1 feature for the next update.
But also realize the reason that this is a hard challenge is that the way shipshaper runs at 60fps mostly, is that it cuts up ships into 'zones'. This innovation is great to make the entire thing happen, but makes dragging from a menu very hard, cuz you cannot drag a mast anywhere, only on the centerline. You cannot drag a window to the top of the deck. etc etc. But I am going to attempt to do just that. let's see! But this update that is now live, it's pretty cool to tie you over.
Lets first check out the crane lifting wrecks.. Something to do in the sandbox with that physicalized ship!
How to support development further:
buy the game , clearly for the modest price you've already done this and I salute you
review the game. Positively, Negatively.. leave feedback. Best of all if you engage or re-test after I try and fix your issues. that is the best.!
Make epic ships.
let me restate it's lovely to see so many boat people find shipshaper and realizing its more than a modelling tool or more than a builder. It's turning into a dedicated boat design game and simulation. And more is yet to come!
You are pushing on development, and it's great!
Cranes, Rudders and Drag Changelog
Cranes
Added a controllable crane.
The giant crane will retrieve sunken squadron ships.
Sail up to a sunken ship, the crane will lower, find the attachment point, the crane will heave and you need to sail away to pull up the wreck.
Added a button to sink a random squadron ship if your ship has a giant crane. Go pull it out!
Rudders & Propulsion
Added the option for double and triple rudders.
Added a rudder with space for an integrated screw.
Added dorsal screw.
Rudder scale has an effect.
Angling propellers affects rotation speed, and reverse props affect astern power.
Applying astern speed brakes the ship if it's still going forward, and vice versa.
Improved rotation boost from screws and angled screws.
Increased torque but reduced speed for engines.
Fixed that the rudder sometimes wouldn't update its colour.
Drag & Building
Big changes to dragging, less jank in dragging items.
Changed superstructure dragging.
Added an overhang for gun emplacements to be dragged out past the bow or stern.
Floating gun emplacements are fixed to the deck height of the ship.
Improved jib placement and clamping behavior.
Removed slowdown on changing hull parts.
Fixed side items not having identical rotations across the mirror side.
Fixed the rotation handle on the mirror side going counter.
Fixed rails not being pickable when hovering over the barrel of a gun turret that supports rails.
New Parts
Added bollards.
Added variants to the deck grating for deck hatches, cargo and deck coverings.
Added flying bridge superstructure.
Added cylinder superstructure.
Added a wheelhouse with girder supports.
Added nautilus window.
Added rounded bow and stern.
Added that lamps can be placed on the hull deck.
Physics & Stability
Fixed a bunch of physics issues.
Tweaked physics values.
Masts are integrated into stability and load.
Propellors have weight, due to their prop shaft , so you cannot fit endless props on your small boat anymore. They weigh you down!
Parts of the hull underwater provide stability.
Load and ride depth of the ship is a smoother curve.
Going from full to unsinkable physics is more immediate, so you have quicker feedback.
Other Fixes
Made an extra safeguard to identify existing Workshop items.
Fixed that very angled surfaces on the hull could get no buttons.
Fixed a few states in which the UI could get stuck in hull mode or wouldn't update which item was selected.
