v0.53.12 - Hotfix & Quality of Life
Murder Punishment Save Corruption Fix
Fixed a critical bug from v0.53.11 where the prison equipment strip could corrupt a player's save data, making their character unloadable. The game would show "Create new character" instead of the existing save. Players affected by this issue should now be able to load their characters normally.
Single-Player NPC Level Diversity
NPCs in single-player now spawn with a wide range of levels (1-80) instead of all starting at level 5-10. The world feels alive and established from the first time you enter.
- ~20% of NPCs spawn at levels 1-15 (early rivals and recruits)
- ~30% at levels 15-40 (challenging peers)
- ~30% at levels 40-65 (strong adversaries)
- ~20% at levels 65-80 (endgame NPCs)
Immigrant NPCs also spawn at higher levels now instead of always starting at level 5.
Note: This only affects new single-player games. Existing saves retain their current NPC levels.
"The Stranger" NPC Removed
The Stranger (Noctura's mortal disguise) has been removed from the town NPC roster. Noctura now appears through dungeon events and Old God encounters, making the standalone town NPC redundant. Story progression is unaffected.
Status Quickbar Key Changed
The quickbar shortcut for Status has changed from [S] to [%] to avoid conflicting with location-specific menu keys.
Auto-Update Scripts for BBS Sysops
New standalone update check scripts for automated game updates. Linux sysops can set up a cron job, Windows sysops can use Task Scheduler. The scripts check GitHub for new releases, back up the current installation, and extract the update automatically. See BBS_DOOR_SETUP.md for setup instructions.
