v0.53.9 - Boss Difficulty, Defense Fix & Tank Overhaul
Old God Boss Difficulty Overhaul
All seven Old God bosses have been massively buffed. Players were face-rolling through encounters that should be the hardest fights in the game. Every boss now demands real preparation, good gear, a full party, and sustained DPS to beat the enrage timer.
HP increases: Maelketh 25K to 100K, Veloura 50K to 200K, Thorgrim 100K to 400K, Noctura 150K to 600K, Aurelion 250K to 800K, Terravok 350K to 1M, Manwe 500K to 1.5M.
Strength increases: All bosses hit 2-4x harder. Thorgrim now hits as hard as Manwe used to. Manwe hits for 2,400 STR with 4 attacks per round.
Enrage timers extended to match the HP increases while remaining a meaningful DPS check. Maelketh 40 rounds, Veloura/Thorgrim 35, Noctura 30, Aurelion 28, Terravok/Manwe 25.
These are meant to be real boss fights now. Bring your best gear and a full party.
Defense Calculation Fix (Critical)
The combat status bar showed your DEF as a large number (e.g., 1834), but actual damage reduction was using a completely different formula that only provided a fraction of that value. Your armor was barely working.
What changed:
- Regular monster attacks now reduce damage by your full armor value (75-100% of displayed DEF) instead of a sqrt-scaled fraction
- Monster special abilities (venom strikes, rallying charges, etc.) were completely ignoring your armor -- now reduced by Defence + 50% Armor Power + Magic AC
- The defense calculation line [X damage vs Y defense] now appears for special abilities too, so you can see what's happening
If you felt like your armor wasn't doing anything before, it wasn't. It is now.
Combat Clarity: Armor Power vs Hit Roll AC
Player feedback: the defense numbers were confusing because three different stats all looked like "AC" but measured different things.
Terminology changes:
- Equipment screens now say "Armor Power" (AP) instead of "Armor Class" (AC)
- Combat rolls now say "vs Hit Roll AC" to clarify this is the D20 target number
- The combat status bar now shows your Hit Roll AC in green -- this is what monsters roll against to see if they hit you at all
- DEF remains your total damage reduction pool (what absorbs damage when attacks land)
Spell Buff Display Fixes
- Protection spells now say "+403 DEF" instead of "+403 AC"
- "999 rounds" duration now displays as "whole fight"
- Attack buff messages show the actual bonus value instead of a hardcoded "+50% damage"
- Status effects with whole-fight duration no longer show "PWR(999)" -- just "PWR"
Abyssal Anchor Rework (Tidesworn)
Abyssal Anchor (level 50) reworked into a proper tank taunt:
- AoE taunt -- all enemies forced to attack you for 3 rounds
- +80 DEF self buff and -20% enemy damage (unchanged)
- Cooldown reduced from 5 to 4 rounds
Tidesworn can now alternate between Thundering Roar (3-round taunt, 5 CD) and Abyssal Anchor (3-round taunt, 4 CD) for near-permanent taunt uptime. This is the tank rotation the class was missing.
Healing Elixir Ally Targeting (Alchemist)
Healing Elixir can now target teammates. Players get a target prompt showing all party members with HP. NPC Alchemist teammates auto-target the most injured party member. Gives Alchemist NPCs a way to keep the party alive before their AoE heals at higher levels.
XP Redistribution Fixes
- Player-inclusive fix -- when teammates die, orphaned XP is now split among the player AND surviving teammates (was only going to NPCs, e.g., 20/20/20/20/20 with 3 deaths went to 20/80 instead of 50/50)
- Toggle added -- access via XP Distribution menu [X] then [R]. Defaults to On. Turn it off if you intentionally run uneven splits
Other Fixes
- NPC orientation diversity now checks living NPCs only (dead NPCs were satisfying the diversity minimum)
- Dungeon loot staves forced to two-handed (were sometimes one-handed, allowing shield + staff)
- Items with mismatched slot types (e.g., cloak in weapon slot) caught and rejected during equip
- Blur status effect now properly cleared between combats
- Website live stats load instantly (was 20 seconds on first visit)
- Missing ui.on/ui.off localization keys added to all 5 languages
