Transmission from RustForge 🎙️
v6.1.0.1 is a milestone release that completely overhauls our internal structure with the deployment of EvoEngine V2. This update shifts the focus toward absolute, user-defined control. By decoupling strict internal delays and allowing dynamic speed scaling, you can now push the painting engine to its absolute hardware limits without the risk of missed pixels. We have also introduced intelligent brush analysis and strict input guardrails to permanently solve the dreaded Moiré "specking" effect on high-resolution canvases.
Patch Highlights
Engine Overhaul
EvoEngine V2 (Dynamic Speed Scaling): The engine now dynamically adjusts its overall execution speed based on your specific delay settings. You can safely lower your timing delays to increase painting speed with zero risk of unpainted specks.
Smart Brush Size Suggestions: A new setting that analyzes the canvas dimensions upon capture and recommends the exact brush size needed to prevent unpainted gaps on XL and XXL signs.
Line Tool Input Protection: Re-engineered the Shift-Click Line Tool's input sequence. It now utilizes a dynamic speed feature that scales with your Precision Timing Delay, preventing super-rapid movement strokes from being dropped by the game.
Threshold Guardrails: The Line Length Threshold now enforces a strict minimum of 5 pixels (max 30) to prevent the engine from misfiring on micro-details, resulting in missed input and unpainted specks.
Timelapse Overhaul
Implemented "Lazy Loading" Frame Architecture: The Timelapse Editor now utilizes on-demand frame retrieval. This replaces the previous memory-heavy pre-loading system, reducing RAM usage by over 95% and allowing the editor to open instantly, even with thousands of frames.
Dynamic Overlay: Text overlays are no longer "baked" into individual frames sequentially. "The Evo Engine" now generates a single dynamic overlay layer that is applied during the encoding process, eliminating the massive processing delay previously seen when enabling text overlays.
Optimized Preview Playback: The preview window now utilizes low-latency rendering for frame seeking, providing a smooth, real-time preview of your timelapse.
Session Cleanup: Re-engineered the cancellation logic to ensure timelapse folders are purged from the disk if a timelapse is discarded, preventing "ghost data" from cluttering user storage.
Balancing & Logic
EvoEngine V2 & Dynamic Speeds
The Challenge: Previously, finding the perfect balance between speed and stability was difficult. Pushing delays too low caused unpainted specks, while hardcoded safety nets restricted how fast high-end rigs could paint.
The Fix: Setting your Precision Timing Delay and End of Line Delay now dynamically adjusts the entire speed sequence of EvoEngine V2. You can use lower delays to push RustForge's speed to its absolute limit. The engine automatically synchronizes the input stream, giving you full control over your speed while maintaining 100% stability and zero missed inputs.
The Shift-Click Line Tool & Buffer Overloads
The Challenge: Setting the Line Length Threshold too low (e.g., 2 pixels) forced the Shift-Click tool to execute microscopic mouse movements. This completely overloaded Unity Engine's input buffer. The game couldn't process the physical mouse clicks fast enough, dropping the inputs entirely.
The Fix: The threshold now features a minimum of 5 pixels. Micro-details (like eyes and gradients) will now safely use the mouse movement glide, while longer lines, and large areas of color, use the Shift-Click boost. Furthermore, the Line Tool now uses a dynamic speed multiplier to ensure the OS perfectly sends the Shift modifier to Unity before the mouse clicks again.
Smart Brush Size Suggestions
The Challenge: Rust scales canvases in a way that makes the default 1.00 brush physically too small to cover 1-pixel movement steps. This mismatch causes the Moiré effect, leaving tiny, unpainted specks across your image.
The Fix: Added the "Suggest Brush Size on Capture" setting. Upon capturing your painting area, RustForge calculates the canvas dimensions and provides an immediate recommendation for the exact brush size (e.g., 1.15 to 1.25) required to completely bridge those microscopic gaps, this gets the canvas type based on your set canvas rect (Area image is to be painted in).
📈 Known Issues
HD Canvas Scaling (Zooming) While the new Smart Brush Suggestion feature combats the Moiré effect, if you zoom in/out heavily while painting on canvases like the Large Banner on Pole or the XL Picture Frame, the engine's scaling will change and your paint strokes will misalign.
Fix: Do not zoom in or out while mapping/painting. If you absolutely must zoom, manually increase your Rust brush size slightly to bridge the newly created gaps.
Contour Tracing & Smart Pathing (Resume Limitations) With how Contour Tracing and Smart Pathing calculate the most efficient omnidirectional paths for curves and fills, it is mathematically impossible to resume a paused painting from the exact pixel you stopped at. Instead, the engine will resume from the currently painting color, and begin from the start of that specific color layer to ensure nothing is missed. This is an intended feature of these advanced methods. It may add a few minutes to your total paint time if paused and resumed, but this prevents missing structural chunks of your image.
