Good news, everyone: Corpus et Spiritus is almost finished! The content of the game has been locked — the text at least, as it's been sent for translation into Japanese and Simplified Chinese. And I am happy to announce that the game will be released on Wednesday, September 23! Less than a month from now!
But, before we let the shiny money flow in, there is one last big milestone I want to go through: the Open Beta Playtest! It's going to happen on Steam, and for about 3 days, everyone will have access to the full game, for free. And it starts: now!
Corpus et Spiritus is an alchemy deckbuilder without combat. You signed a pact with a demon, and it was a bad idea… Gather rare metals, then use your alchemy workshop to transform them into powerful cards and game-breaking talismans. Build powerful decks, experiment with different strategies, and uncover powerful combos to break out of the pact before your partner kills you!
Wanna join in on the fun? Hop into Steam, click the Join the Playtest button on the Corpus et Spiritus page, and the game will be installed and ready to play in just a few seconds. The game will run on Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck — though I haven't been able to test that just yet.
Then play to your heart's content! If at any point you notice a bug, or something frustrating, or something that you particularly enjoy, please hit the F8 key and send us your feedback. We'll use that as the primary source to fix those bugs and make the game as good as possible for its prime time, on September 23!
What's new?
So much has changed in the game recently that I won't go into the details. But here are some of the keys things we did in the last few months:
We redesigned most of the content, cards and talismans. Some mechanics have been removed, and multiple new ones have made it in. We also added the content we intended to have, leading to the game having a total of 159 cards and 85 talismans.
We added 5 new starting decks, for a total of 6 decks you can play with! They all come with a unique starting talisman, for a renewed experience each time.
There is meta-progression now: you gain runes by playing, and spend them to repair your workshop or to unlock new cards, talismans and decks.
There are 8 challenges that you can enable, for a tougher challenge, but also boons that you can use to make the game easier. You have control to fine-tune the game and find your sweet spot!
And we also made smaller changes to a lot of gameplay rules and mechanics, to make the experience more enjoyable. We hope you'll have a great time playing the game!
The demo has been updated just now with the new content. However, it doesn't have the meta-progression and only a portion of the content. So, enjoy the full content of the game this weekend! After that, you'll have to wait until the end of September, or satisfy yourself with just the demo. 😇
What's next?
We would love to get as many eyes as possible on the game, to make sure it has as little bugs as possible for the release. So bring your friends, anyone whom you know is a fan of card games, deckbuilders, roguelikes, strategy games…
After you've played the game, please let us know what you thought! You can do so by clicking the F8 button anywhere in game, or by joining our Discord server. We are looking forward to your feedback!
The next step after this playtest is to release the game. As I said, that's going to happen on September 23, at 3:00 PM UTC / 8:00 AM PT. The game will launch at a price of $11.99 / 12,25€, with a special discount of 20% for the first week. Be sure to wishlist the game to receive an email once it's out!
