Focusing on Five Classes
One of the bigger decisions I've made recently is to reduce the number of playable classes in Unbowed from eight to five.
The original roster included three additional classes focused on magic. While I was excited to bring these classes to life, developing and balancing an entirely separate approach to combat would require a significant amount of additional work.
As a solo developer, I've decided to focus my efforts on the melee combat that forms the foundation of Unbowed. This will allow me to spend more time refining the weapons, animations, abilities, and encounters that make each class feel distinct, while keeping the project on a more manageable path toward release.
Although the roster is smaller than originally planned, my goal is to make each of these five classes feel like a meaningful choice, with its own strengths and reasons to play.
Here's a look at the five classes and what makes each one unique.
Corsair

Bruiser

Bounty Hunter

Bilge Rat

Cannoneer

What's next?
My immediate goal is to finish the remaining class abilities and attack animations, then put all five classes through a thorough round of combat testing and balancing.
I'm also continuing work on Shipwreck Reef and its boss encounter, with the longer-term goal of bringing both playable areas into a more polished and stable demo.
Thanks for following along with development!
