Hello, everyone!
DEAD BEFORE WORK: The Commute is constantly evolving toward one ultimate goal: becoming the ultimate comedy game. Today, we are thrilled to announce v2.0.0 MAJOR UPDATE, the biggest and most significant milestone in the game's history!
Alongside our signature physics-based slapstick gameplay, we are introducing a brand-new Online Battle Mode and an extreme Sandbox Mode!
1. New Mode: Online Word Battle - "WORDJONG" (2–7 Players)
Experience a brand-new intelligent comedy party mode played with 2 to 7 players! Combine dealt word tiles to craft the most witty, absurd, and hilarious responses to outsmart your friends! (Think of it as an elevated, interactive Mad Libs experience).
🎁 Cross-Mode Rewards: All in-game currency and EXP earned in WordJong carry over directly to the Main Story Mode, Trap Shop, and Costume Shop!
🎴 Two Battle Modes
① Ghost Writer Mode
A turn-based battle mode alternating between Dealer and Players.
Rules: Select the best word combinations from your hand of 9 tiles to match the prompt (choose to place them above or below the target word).
Scoring: The Dealer picks the "Best Answer." The chosen player gains +30 pts, and the Dealer gains +10 pts.
⚠️ The Ghost Trap: Beware! NPC-generated "Ghost Answers" are hidden among player submissions! If the Dealer mistakenly picks a Ghost Answer, the Dealer loses 30 pts, while all other players gain +15 pts!
Gameplay: Test your ability to read the Dealer’s humor, and when acting as Dealer, sharpen your wits to spot fake answers generated by the AI!
② Original Presentation Mode
Fill in the blanks of a sentence template to create the most creative or funny statement!
Rules: Pick the perfect word tile from your hand of 9 to complete the missing gap.
Flow: Submissions are revealed one by one. The Dealer reads the entire sentence aloud with dramatic flair and selects the Best Answer (+30 pts to the winner)!
🎙️ Dev Tip: Hilarious with Voice Chat (Discord, etc.)!
Both modes become exponentially funnier when playing over voice chat! Presenting your submission and explaining why you chose those specific words turns an ordinary joke into comedy gold. Show off your humor, wit, and comedic instincts!
🌐 WORDJONG Language Support & Call for Community Contributors!
Currently, due to the nuanced nature of word-combining gameplay, WORDJONG is only available in English and Japanese.
However, the game system is already built to support any language as long as a localized word list is provided! If you are passionate about bringing WORDJONG to your native language and would like to help us build a word list for your region, we would love to hear from you on Steam Discussions or our Official Discord!
Note: Similar to English and Japanese, a full localized word list will need to be created.
There are minor technical guidelines (such as character limits per tile), but once the data is ready, we are fully prepared to implement new languages immediately!
Help us bring laughter to players all around the world in every language!
2. Sandbox Stress Test Level Editor Stage
We’ve added a special Sandbox stage to the Level Editor with almost all limits removed!
Almost All Traps Unlocked: Access nearly all traps and environment objects right from the start (excluding reward-exclusive items).
Memory Limit Raised to 998,000: Build at a scale previously impossible!
Jump Force Buff: Player character jump height increased by +0.5m!
⚠️ Performance Notice (Use at Your Own Risk)
If you max out the 998,000 memory limit, your CPU might melt before the engine gives up! Please build responsibly.
Maps packed with excessive traps will save and load properly, but may require significantly longer loading times when playing.
Maps built on high-end PCs may not run smoothly on lower-spec hardware. Performance varies based on object density, so please use the Sandbox at your own discretion.
Push your hardware to the absolute limit and chase the ultimate MAX COMBO!
3. Patch Notes & Adjustments
New Trap: Added UFO DUCT Launcher.
Balance Adjustment: Adjusted mannequin angles in Mall 2.
Level Editor Fix: When uploading custom stages, the automatic screenshot capture now hides placement icons for a cleaner preview image.
DEAD BEFORE WORK remains dedicated to bringing unadulterated hilarity to players worldwide. Jump into v2.0.0 MAJOR UPDATE today and show us your comedic genius!
