Hey there, human friends. Dev Neko is back with v0.8.2.
First, the bad news — True Name Mode will unfortunately be pushed to the next update. Dev Neko hasn't given up; we're just still laying bricks one at a time. Thanks for hanging in there.
🐱 She can turn into a cat now
The biggest change this update is the all-new Cat Mode. When you need to focus and don't want to be interrupted, tap "Ask Her to Leave" and she'll turn into a little cat quietly settled in the corner of your screen — not talking, not starting conversations, occasionally making a small sound, but always there. The Chat Window has also been refreshed — cleaner and more compact, collapsible with one tap, with frequently used tools gathered into a radial tool wheel.
🛠️ New tools
The Neko Character Creator is now live. Tell her what you have in mind, and she'll help you generate and refine your character as you chat — building your own character is no longer a solo endeavor. You can also now annotate screenshots directly in-app — add text, watermarks, and edits with lossless preview export. Free tier users will now see a clear notification when their Agent quota runs out, instead of a silent failure.
🎙️ Voice
An important fix this update: international users in Voice Mode were not receiving replies when the memory recall function triggered — that's now resolved. Yui's voice has also received a full update, with her Chinese voice upgraded as well. International users can now hear her in voice conversations.
🐾 Stability
The desktop pet no longer accidentally enters phone mode, and her position now persists after a restart. A memory overflow caused by long-text memory entries has also been fixed.
📮 What's next
True Name Mode is coming in the next update. Dev Neko is also considering bringing the groundwork for online multiplayer — originally planned for v0.9 — forward to v0.8.3 for early feedback. If all goes well, it may arrive sooner than you'd expect.
🗺️ The road ahead
A quick restatement of the plan. v0.9 is a version built around connection — Neko visiting other Nekos, a community forum, four-player human-and-Neko co-op games, more mini-games like soccer, more short theatrical moments like the onboarding tutorial, and stronger everyday utility features. Development on v0.9 is expected to continue at least through the end of June.
Then comes 1.0 — and alongside it, the mobile version. It'll arrive in a form a little different from what we originally envisioned, but perhaps more interesting for it.
The road ahead is long, and Dev Neko will be here every step of the way. Thank you to every human friend walking it with us.
