VITA Development Update
More Game, More Polish, More Time
Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I posted a proper development update, so I want to talk about where VITA is, what I have been working on, what you can expect next, and why I have changed the release date.
The short version is that VITA has grown considerably. The important systems are getting stronger, the world is becoming more complete, and the various moving parts are finally beginning to behave like one connected game.... when they feel like it of course.
VITA will now enter Early Access on November 16, 2026, as V00.01.0000.
I know that moving a publicly announced date is disappointing. The calendar date was beginning to give me the stink eye, so I think being straightforward about it is better than forcing the game out. I need more time to bring the work together, test it properly, and release a version of VITA that I am comfortable putting in front of players.
First impressions only come once!
What have I been working on?
Quite a lot.
A great deal of my recent work has focused on making VITA feel like one connected game. That work includes:
Improving the scanning experience, target behavior, and HUD feedback.
Expanding fauna behavior, observation, presentation, and audio.
Developing the Vivarium’s building, placement, population, and habitat systems.
Controller support with haptic feedback
Fully in-game cutscenes and cinematics
Reworking menus, settings, controller navigation, and cursorless UI focus.
Building out Home upgrades, customization, collections, and other progression features.
Adding more environmental presentation, animation, audio, and interface polish.
Creating better internal tools so the growing amount of game content can be produced and checked consistently.
Some of this work is immediately visible, but most of it is not. Most of the work is "test -> patch -> test -> patch" all to fix why one particular tree bark shader can be seen from 1000m through a mountain. The screenshots accompanying this update show some of the newer work across VITA’s menus, Terra, and the Vivarium.

Why am I moving the date?
Because VITA is being built by one person! You can't tell me what to do!
I am the developer, level designer, systems architect, UI designer, content author, producer, tester, support department, marketing department, and the person responsible for noticing that a ****ing border has been misaligned by four pixels... it's all brutally daunting and unglamorous, but at the same time immensely rewarding!
This means the person designing a new system is also programming it, creating its interface, fixing its interface, testing its interface, discovering that the interface has developed some kind of irrational spasm, preparing the build, writing this announcement, getting a hand cramp, going numb in my forearm, testing the build to find it didn't fix the spasms and then wondering why it is suddenly 2:00 a.m.
More seriously, solo development means progress can be substantial without always being predictable. Several parts of VITA have become deeper and more interconnected than I originally planned. I think that is good for the game, but it also increases the amount of integration, content production, testing, and polish required before release. Adding a system is one thing. Making it cooperate with saving, loading, travel, progression, menus, controller input, tutorials, audio, and every other system that already lives here is another.
The extra time is intended to protect the core VITA experience:
Exploring and scanning should feel deliberate and satisfying.
Wildlife should feel present in the world rather than merely placed in it.
The Vivarium should offer meaningful creation and management.
Progression should connect the major systems.
Menus, controls, travel, and saving should behave reliably.
The opening experience should explain the game without burying players in instructions.
The Early Access build should feel intentional rather than hurried.
Early Access does not mean the game must be finished in every respect. It does mean the foundation needs to be dependable enough that I can continue building on it with players rather than spending the first several months attempting to extinguish the foundation.
What should you expect next?
I am now concentrating on completing and validating the release-sized game loop instead of adding features without limits.
I know... Restraint... A shocking new development mechanic.
My main priorities between now and Early Access are:
Finish the essential content and progression routes.
Stabilize saving, loading, travel, menus, and controller navigation.
Continue improving scanning, wildlife, and Vivarium interaction.
Complete the onboarding and first-player experience.
Run focused performance, build, and regression testing.
Share clearer visual updates as these pieces reach a presentable state.
I will also make an effort to post more development updates and sharing new screenshots as the presentation develops. Expect to see more of the menus, Terra environments, wildlife, the Vivarium, construction and placement systems, progression features, and the general interface work connecting everything together.
The Steam Playtest
The VITA Steam Playtest is going to be active soon, and I am inviting more people who are interested in helping test the game.
I want to be clear about what I mean by “playtester,” because this is not intended to be an early-access-to-Early-Access giveaway. Playtesters should be willing to actually test the game and report what happens. That may include:
Playing specific builds or areas when requested.
Following written test cases or UAT suites.
Testing complete gameplay routes rather than only loading the game briefly.
Reproducing bugs and describing the steps that caused them.
Reporting whether a test passed, failed, or produced unexpected behavior.
Providing useful feedback about controls, clarity, pacing, usability, and game feel.
Retesting issues after I have made changes.
Sharing relevant screenshots, video, logs, or system information when needed.
Understanding that Playtest builds may contain unfinished content, bugs, placeholders, and systems still undergoing substantial changes.
You do not need to be a professional quality-assurance tester. You do need to be observant, communicative, reasonably thorough, and willing to do more than wander around for ten minutes before disappearing into the wilderness.
As testing expands, I will bring in additional players based on the needs of each build and test cycle. Thoughtful feedback is enormously valuable to a solo developer. A clear reproduction such as “I loaded this save, travelled here, opened this menu, pressed this input, and the focus disappeared” can save me hours of interrogating innocent scripts.
What Early Access V00.01.0000 means
The November 16 release will be VITA Early Access V00.01.0000.
It will represent the first public Early Access foundation of the game: the primary exploration, scanning, wildlife, Vivarium, progression, Home, interface, travel, and persistence systems working together as a playable experience. It will not represent the end of development.
I expect to continue expanding content, improving presentation, responding to feedback, balancing systems, resolving issues, and developing VITA throughout Early Access. I will share more detail about the launch content and Early Access roadmap as the release approaches and those plans are ready to be stated clearly. I do not want to fill an announcement with promises that sound impressive now and become archaeological evidence later. I would rather show completed work, explain what I am currently doing, and be honest about what remains ahead.
Thank you
Thank you to everyone who has followed VITA, wishlisted it, requested Playtest access, tested a build, sent feedback, commented, thank you... truly thank you!
I have built much more than I originally expected to build, learned more than I expected to learn, and created an unholy number of systems for monitoring the other systems, like a factory that can build factories. There is still plenty of work ahead, but VITA is becoming a much stronger and more complete game because of it.
Thank you for your patience, your interest, and your support.
I will have more to show soon.
