Welcome back. Why don’t we talk about tanks in greater detail?.
We aim to give a new feeling to the entire tank combat and handling. Realistically remaking how tanks play, feel, and move.
True Acceleration
One does not simply accelerate a 60 ton beast to it’s maximum speed in a mere 2 seconds. We are completely ripping apart this abomination of tank motion and implementing realistic acceleration. The main factor for this feature is horsepower/ton. For example, light tanks with powerful engines have good acceleration. Others, mainly heavy beasts with mediocre engines, will suffer from slow acceleration.
Braking distance.
If you try to slow down a 50 ton tank moving 40km/h in 1 second, the deceleration damping that the crew will suffer should cause deep injuries and probably death, and damage to the internal vehicle’s modules. Moreover, if the tracks stop suddenly, the tank would still move forward bursting through the ground because of the momentum it carries. We are in the process of implementing realistic stopping distance, which will be vary mainly depending on the mass of the vehicles. Poking through corners in heavy tanks is now harder!
On-road and off-road
In reality, tanks are much more mobile on road than off-road. The soft terrain caused tracks to bury into the soil and required more energy to move. In the past vehicles in Gem2-engine based games had similar top speeds regardless of the terrain they went through. Not any more. If you want to go fast, find a suitable road to drive through. We plan to implement more specific calculations to off-road and on-road speeds. The T-34, for example, had a very good off-road movement compared to on-road. The light Panzer II, on the other hand, had a pathetic off-road motion.
Turret rotation
We have set real speeds for turret movement. Electrically and hydraulically powered turrets have very respectable turret motion. Manually rotated turrets are, however, not that satisfying. So for the oldschool arm-powered turrets, ensure they are facing the right direction from the start!
