As the earth opened up, something burst forth. The first spores of the mushroom forest began their all-consuming journey to the surface.
The world wasn't ready for this, but will you be?
Greetings everyone
Welcome to the Steam community for Before They Catch Us!
I’m the author and artist behind the game, and this is my first full-scale project. I’ve been working on it for months, pouring in as much of my time, energy, and imagination as I can — and now I finally get to share it with you.
We are a very small team, but a dedicated one.
This community will be the place for updates, behind-the-scenes looks, and discussion. I’d love to hear from you — what intrigues you most about the setting? Do you want to see more art, more lore, or early glimpses of the gameplay?
We will also be glad to answer any question you have!
Lets talk a bit about...
Curent state of game
For now I wanted to share a bit of what’s happening behind the scenes right now.
At this stage of development, we’re deep in the process of writing and polishing the chapters for Before They Catch Us. Each scene, each line of dialogue, and each dream sequence needs to feel right — not just for the story, but for the tone of the entire game.
The chapters are coming together piece by piece, but its a long proces.
While the text is being finalized, we’re also assembling it all inside the game engine. That means connecting backgrounds, character portraits, music, and the branching dialogue system so the story flows the way it’s meant to. It’s both exciting and challenging — especially when a small change in one chapter can ripple through the rest of the narrative.
We will soon do our first closed test of first chapter, you will hear about it more!
waiting for your questions!
I don’t know if anyone will read this.
The prophet says the Path is safest when walked to the West, so we always do… maybe one day someone else will need these words. Maybe you, who found this will...
The forest has been moving again. We heard the roots under the ground last night. The air smells sour now — too sour — and the dreams have been getting stranger.
It seems to be growing inside me... i dont feel like myself anymore.
