Hello everyone!
We know that we said we'd probably not give any further updates to Ødeborg, but that's where that "probably" comes in.
We're very happy to announce that we are going to be attending GamesCom this year! We'll be part of a small booth called "RAW Talent Booth", a booth that shows off a bunch of games made by university students! There are students from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland!
So if you're going to GamesCom, make sure to swing by to look at what young gamedevs have been working on! You can find it in Hall 10.2, Booth E42 from the 26th to the 30th of August!
To go alongside this trip, we were able to get ourselves together to make one update, focused on bug fixes and other quality of life improvements! These are:
Gameplay:
-Added a saving system. You can now save your progress via the book in the corner of the main hall. You can save as many times as you wish, but you only have one slot. This means that you no longer have to start all the way from the beginning if you either die or close the game.
-Added item icons into the player's inventory for most items. Now, if you are having a hard time figuring out which items in your inventory can be used on the map, you can do that more easily by looking at the icons.
-Before this patch, the tutorial was a big wall of text at the begining of the game. It was overwhelming, and it was fed to the player before they even started playing. So, we restructured the tutorial. It is now spread out through the opening section of the game, with each happening in an enviorment where the player can test the controls. This should ease up on the confusion.
Other changes:
-Added a small text prompt to the starting dialouge that tells you to "Press E" to advance the dialouge. Some players did not know that E advances dialouge, and would just sit frozen without knowing what to do to advance the game.
-Slightly modified the aiming line. Now it is not as large as before.
-Prevented the player from pausing while they are in dialouge.
-You can now close the inventory screen with Esc.
-You can now close the map with Esc.
-The player can no longer open the map while they are in dialouge.
-The player can no longer move while they have the inventory or map open.
-Made it so that the player cannot open the map while their inventory is open.
-Made it so that the player cannot open the inventory while their map is open.
-Made it so that you cannot interact with the enviorment (open doors, open chests, etc) while they have their map or inventory open.
Bug fixes:
-Fixed a gamebreaking bug that would happen if players would interact with objects while in motion. There was a small chance that the player model would slide out of range of the dialouge object, thus be unable to advance the dialouge. This meant that the players were stuck, and had to restart the game. This bug should be fixed now.
-The aiming line no longer gets stopped by invisible objects.
-Did some optimization to the code that opens your inventory screen.
-Some objects had a yellow outline instead of a white outline. That should be fixed now.
-The credits should no longer scroll infinitely. Now once they reach the bottom, they come to a stop, so the player will be able to click the button without it scrolling away.
-Centered the title in the credits.
-The camera no longer moves if you have the inventory or map open.
-The player is no longer able to aim their gun while they are in dialouge.
-Fixed the bug where interacting with objects while running would sometimes cause the player model to get stuck in either its walk or run animations.
-The camera should no longer move when you are in dialouge.
-Made sure all the doors have the correct sound effects associated with them.
-FIxed the bug related to the ammo and health item pickups. If the player picked up a bullet for the first time, it would equal one single bullet. But if they picked up any other bullet after that, it would equal two bullets. Same goes for healing items. This should be fixed now.
-Fixed a bug where some chests wouldn't destroy their own icon on the map.
-Fixed a UI layering issue. The healing plant icon appeared on top of the map, while nothing else did. This should be fixed now, the map is on top of everything.
-Made sure all the candles had their sound effects.
