This fourth update since Early Access doesn't bring new content, but it does significantly enhance the game’s underlying performance. Whether you're on a high-refresh display or an older laptop, you should notice smoother, more consistent gameplay across the board.
⚙️ Major Performance Improvements
A new software-based VSync emulation system has been implemented, offering precise frame pacing, timing drift correction, and hybrid sleep/spin logic, resulting in:
Frame delivery is now smoother and more consistent
CPU usage is cut nearly in half on average
1% Low FPS has improved dramatically, especially at high refresh rates
This system is enabled by default. While you can disable it in the settings, it’s not recommended.
🖥️ VRR Support
A new “VRR Support” option allows per-frame refresh rate detection, improving compatibility with GSync, FreeSync, and other variable refresh displays.
This is disabled by default but can be toggled in the settings menu.
🔒 Frame Profiling
The old "Show FPS" option has been replaced with "Show Performance Metrics", now displaying both average FPS and a rolling 30-second 1% Low FPS.
Press[TAB]in the debug menu to export a detailed benchmark JSON to the new frame_profiles folder, which includes:
Timestamped frame timing data from the past 5 minutes
Heap usage
Detected spikes
Additional metrics
Note:
Frame data is reset every run
Only active gameplay records frames (not during pause, game over, or menus)
For uninterrupted benchmarking, it is recommended to use[G]godmode.
🌠 Other Fixes and Improvements
Stars now fade out properly when night turns to day instead of disappearing instantaneously.
Rare rain restart issue fixed (added cooldown between weather events).
The debug menu log activation message now correctly persists.
The settings menu has been updated with better descriptions and tooltips.
Launch4j packaging corrected to eliminate redundant packaging, reducing file size.
