Shoot 'Em Up Kit 2.0.15

We're pleased to announce that the latest version (2.0.15) of the Shoot 'Em Up Kit is now available.

Here is the changelist for 2.0.15:

  • New User Interface.
  • Particle Editor supports multiple layers of effects.
  • Added support for AI States.
  • Added Teleport options for AI Behaviours.
  • Level Editor supports layers to easily add items at different depths. Select the layer in the Tools pane or use the PageUp/PageDown shortcuts.
  • Sprites can be set for different directions. These will be used when the sprite is rotated in that direction.
  • Added support for minimum shield duration and shield cooldown.
  • Added 'Step' movement type. This causes Entities to jump along their path in steps. This is useful for retro gaming effects.
  • Rotation can be set for each NPC Generator node.
  • Weapon properties 'Reload Time Remaining' and 'Unlimited Ammo' are now accessible to the HUD and Behaviour Editor.
  • The Player Shield is now saving correctly.
  • Shield recharge is now working.
  • A shield button can now be assigned and the shield will only be active once the button is pressed.
  • An Explorer window is opened at the appropriate directory once a package build has completed.
  • Fixed problems with some of the AI movement behaviours not using the correct direction.
  • Camera Roll axis is now fixed.
  • When placing an object the camera zoom will stop if going through the object.
  • When placing an object the camera will move back if the current layer is behind the camera.
  • When Refill All Ammo Clips is selected it will also refill the main ammo level too.
  • The events for MovingX, MovingY and MovingZ are now triggered correctly.
  • All effects for the Destroyed event are now triggered correctly.
  • Fixed a problem that could prevent bullet sprites from looping.
  • Fixed a problem that could prevent generated NPCs from spawning with the correct rotation.
  • Improved Spline following.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause NPCs to ignore their AI behaviour if previous AI types had been deleted.
  • Rotation offset effect now works correctly.
  • Removed coloured lines which appeared when an item was selected with the mouse on a front-end page.
  • Fixed an issue that could result in a sprite being saved without its texture.
  • Fixed a problem selecting Behaviours in multi-level projects.
  • Fixed a problem with Behaviours not being correctly triggered in multi-level projects.
  • Behaviours are correctly copied when a level is copied in the Level Editor.
  • Fixed an issue with deleting Behaviour Editor nodes that could cause an extra node to be removed too.
  • Improved particle rotation and velocity interpolation.
  • Optimisation: Fewer memory allocations.
  • Optimisation: Test Game and Test Level will start faster.

We've added a range of new features but we've also added more depth to some existing features such as the AI, Shield and Particles.

Usability remains an important focus and we have made a lot of tweaks and fixes. We've also added better support for making levels with items at different depths.

The Wiki continues to make progress. Wiki It is still mostly a reference guide at the moment but we're adding more tutorials. Our intention is to have a learning tree to help guide users around the features of the Kit.

It has been pointed out that there are some problems with rotations in 6 degrees of freedom games. We have a solution for this and we'll be releasing another update shortly.

We hope you enjoy the features in this new update. If you have any questions, problems or comments then please let us know.

Many thanks,
The Tall Studios team
