Autumn greetings!
This update features a completely reworked night-time effect!
My previous implementation was quite performance-heavy and caused issues for some players in the form of lag and, unfortunately, occasional crashes. This should be heavily improved with this new update!
To get a bit technical:
The old implementation made use of 2 render passes: 1 render of the entire scene with night-time post processing, and a 2nd render pass for objects that needed to be excluded from post-processing (such as lights or cooking pots). The 2nd pass was then layered ontop of the 1st pass. While this resulted in a great looking scene, the 2 passes were quite taxing.
The new implementation on the other hand is done entirely in 1 render pass! Thanks to something called the "stencil buffer" and by no longer relying on Unity's built in post-processing stack, I am now able to achieve my desired effect much more efficiently.
Hopefully this will resolve the performance issues and/or crashes that some players were experiencing!
Additionally, this update adds the following QoL and fixes:
Hovering over a cookpot will now reveal the most recently cooked meal. Handy when you're later in the game and need to remember which cookpots were intended for which meals.
When placing a monster in a slot for a campaign 2v2 or 3v3 battle, you will now receive a message prompt that the game is expecting you to drop in a 2nd or 3rd monster into the other slots.
Rain and snow during daytime will now make the overworld be just a little bit dark, to simulate overcast. This leads to a nice subtle effect in which lit objects gently illuminate the scene.
Fixed a bug where taking out certain ingredients from the cookpot did not "clear" the cookpot properly.
Fixed an issue with the tutorial in which the names of monster eggs would appear blocky once the eggshop is first revealed.
Thanks for everyone's feedback!
In other news, we are also thrilled to be part of the Autumn Companion for You event!
This event starts later today at 10:00 PM UTC and is focused on desktop companions, so be sure to check out the participating games if you're looking for another game to chill with you!
We'll also be going on our first post-launch discount during this event, albeit with a small delay of one day because of Steam's mandatory 30 day discount cooldown period which is still in effect because of the initial launch discount. Please keep this delay in mind in case you are looking to purchase the game at a discount during the event!
