Welp.
Two years ago, I started making Fractal Odyssey. At the time it had a different name and no real expectation of becoming a "real project". It was something to pass the time, and fill the Void Stranger-induced hole left in my heart.
I never would have expected to have a steam page, or have a public demo, but here we are. And, imperfect as it still is, I am damn proud of what I (and the other people involved) have accomplished here.
The demo contains the entirety of Chapter 1, as well as an additional challenge boss from later in the game. The early buildcrafting mechanics are implemented, as well as the full combat system. While I wouldn't call this a vertical slice quite yet, it's an accurate representation of what the game will "feel" like once all is said and done.
I plan to spend a lot of next week fixing and improving the demo, and hopefully get it to a state that I'm happy with. I won't be abandoning it, though - I'll be working to add new features and expand it up until the end of the year (and maybe a bit beyond).
I don't have all the future plans decided yet, but the next steps from here are some maintenance work on the codebase, then starting to make the whole game. With this sort of systems-driven game, development speeds up massively once the core is complete. This demo is close to that completion state, and content will start ramping up FAST early next year.
Once I've had time to parse feedback and make a long-term plan, I'll share more about the future. For now, if all goes well, this should be a very eventful next few weeks.
With great pride, I present to you - Fractal Odyssey.I'm counting this as Devlog 7
