Developed by Softstar Entertainment, the first-person horror game Junji Ito Maniac: An Infinite Gaol, adapted from the Netflix anime Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, has unveiled an exclusive video featuring Junji Ito during the Steam Winter Sale, along with a limited-time 15% discount. Blending Junji Ito’s signature eerie art style with psychological horror elements, the story invites players into a nightmarish labyrinth woven from fear, chaos, and obsession—an immersive journey into Ito’s haunting universe.
Exclusive Video Featuring Horror Manga Master Junji Ito Released
Renowned worldwide and holding an unshakable position in the realm of horror manga, Junji Ito is celebrated for his distinctive linework and deeply psychological horror style. He masterfully draws unspeakable fear from everyday details, gradually burrowing into the depths of the human psyche through unsettling atmospheres and abnormal imagery. In this exclusive video, Ito himself appears to discuss the gameplay and core highlights of Junji Ito Maniac: An Infinite Gaol, including first-person reinterpretations of several iconic anomalies such as “Hanging Balloon” and “Long Hair in the Attic.” Players can experience the suffocating pressure, sense of the unknown, and the slow, creeping despair unique to Ito’s works—now closer than ever.
In the game, players assume the role of a university student who has lost their memory and becomes inexplicably trapped inside a mysterious Western-style mansion. Armed with only a damaged phone and fragmented recollections, they must navigate through hallways filled with bizarre statues and hidden traps lurking at every turn.
Together with two companions, players unravel the mansion’s secrets while balancing trust and suspicion. As the story progresses, strange phenomena begin to manifest—such as floating human-head balloons and uncontrollably spreading black hair—shrouding the entire mansion in terror and slowly corroding the characters’ minds. Players must piece together clues and memories to uncover the truth behind the mansion and confront an inescapable cycle of horror.
Continuous Player Feedback Leads to Comprehensive Gameplay Improvements
The development team stated that since the game’s release, they have received extensive feedback from players and Junji Ito fans. Multiple content updates and experience optimizations have since been rolled out. Adjustments include stamina rebalancing, enhanced environmental icons, improved map usability, and more. The goal is to provide smoother gameplay during exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival moments—while preserving the psychological tension and pacing that define the horror style of Junji Ito—ultimately creating a more immersive experience.
