This week, you guessed it: Still content!
I guess that's good? That's probably the most fun thing I can do for the playtesters.
But before we get to the content, there has been one more big change gameplay wise:
All Companions now require a card to activate.
Obviously this read to a lot of rebalancing and changes!
Nerd note: I'm quite uncertain about the the interaction where you draw a card onto a companion, and then have to choose a target. I'm hoping it's intuitive enough even if it's not perfect
anyway...
New Content:
- 13 new cards! I'm not gonna spoil them :^)
- 1 New companion: Bubblemancer. (and remember, lots of other ones got reworked)
- 1 New enemy: Quokka, I don't have a smart name for this one yet. (thanks for the suggestion fejlman)
- Not exactly new, but 5 old cards were locked out tude to a bug. Whoops, they've been reenabled.
Non-Gameplay changes:
- The Main Menu buttons got cleaned up so the text doesn't clip and aligns properly.
- Companions went back to being referred to by their "Title" instead of their proper name. I'd still like to incorporate the real names into the game somehow, maybe in dialogue interactions? In any case, I think the game is less cringe now.
- The "Befriend" keyword was changed to "Pacify". People always expected that if you "Befriend" something, it joins your party. Messed up world view if you ask me, but I'm always happy to clear up confusion!
- Improved highlighting of valid targets while you're targetting something.
- When you give a Companion a card, there is now visual and audio feedback to confirm you've they've accepted it.
- A bunch of Companions will now refuse to trigger if their effect would do nothing.
- There are now a lot more combinations of enemies for the regular encounters that can spawn on the map.
Balance changes:
- Igugangsta starting Malice reduced
- Inspiration card was **removed**. (it will come back rebalanced some time in the future)
- Hug Pile card nerfed:
- Old: Remove 3 {malice} from ALL critters.
- New: Remove 3 {malice} from ALL critters. **Discards on turn end.**
- Puppy Eyes card buffed:
- Old: All **critter's** attacks become Durability one
- New: All attacks become Durability one
- Surgeon (previously Alen) companion reworked:
- New text: Pacify all critters with exactly 4 {malice} remaining
- Mimi companion functionality changed, but the outcome of the effect remains mostly equivalent:
- Old text: Get a {temporary} copy of of the card you give me
- New text: Get 2 {temporary} copies of the card you give me (but with how all Companions now discard the card you give them, you still end up with only 2 copies of the card)
- Declawer companion cooldown increased from 4 to 7
- Gardener reworked:
- New text: Poof ANY card you give me
Bugfixes:
- Big improvement with targeting accuracy. Cards will no longer "slip" off the side if you target the edge of an enemy or an attack and complain about "No Target!". Likewise, when giving untargeted cards to a Companion, they'll no longer play on accident sometimes.
- Undo button will now work correctly with "On Turn Start" triggers. (thanks Facechewer)
- Coddle now correctly saves the improved value.
- Lots of other small things.
Unfixed bugs:
- The Resume button on the main menu is always there. I didn't fix this cause it makes testing much easier for me lol. It will be fixed Eventually™
- When you Sniff Out a bunch of cards, they often go off screen.
- Pressing the Undo button may trigger dialogue.
Look forward to "Act 3" some time in the next few months!
Ok that's it. Bye.
