2 weeks ago, Mesmalie released.
I first wanted to make a game similar to this sometime in 2023, then I actually started working on Mesmalie in 2024 (though it wouldn't be called that until about a year in the making). So it's really weird to have something out there for people to play after working on it daily for years... thank you to everyone who gave the game a chance!!!
The game already has over 500 reviews and currently sits at a 99% "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating. I didn't think this would be that kind of game for the longest time, nor did I expect it to happen so soon after release, being my first full title and all. It's hard to not simply repeat my gratitude everywhere, so indulge me in letting it out for a brief moment: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank y
...
Anyway. I just wanted to go over a bit of news, share some fan art, and then outline what's next for Mesmalie and beyond.
Points Shop items
Trading cards, profile backgrounds, emoticons, and animated avatar items are available right now!!! Go plaster Mesmalie stuff all over your profile. The trading card artworks are really cool... here's a list of the artists who contributed!
ChemicalSushi (Dolls'-eyes)
rosalief (Cage)
ShoppnCart (Bird)
Fan art feature
There has been a lot (a lot.) of cool fan art!!! I hope I'm seeing all of it. It's a little hard to keep track of but that's awesome. I'm really happy my game can inspire so many other creative people.
Here are two animations that I wanted to highlight! Spoiler warnings, obviously.
(In case you can't see the video embeds:
"we are made of meat" by silliestbilliest
"Twins at the Carousel" by wahoopaloo)
I'll do another fan art feature in the next big update post. If you post any online, I'm probably seeing & loving it. Just know that.
So what's next?
Mesmalie,,,
I will continue updating Mesmalie with bug fixes and maybe the occasional new bit of content. Something I'd love to expand on is the game's "Extras" room... currently, it lacks some of the minigames you encounter in the game's story, so I'd like to include them there & maybe expand on them in a first big "content update" for Mesmalie, whenever it happens.
I'm also considering avenues for getting translations added to the game. I am aware of multiple concurrent fan translation projects, so evidently there's interest in this... hopefully I can share more translation-specific news in the near future.
Also! I am very eager to compile an art book for Mesmalie, featuring concept art from myself & my friends who contributed to the game, insights into the game's overall development process, as well as some new bits and pieces created solely for the art book. This is probably still a while out too... but I'm very excited to start working on it!
Of course, I'd also love to make more games in this same style. I am drafting a story & prototype for another idea I've had for about as long as Mesmalie, & it's one I'm pretty stoked about... Mesmalie has some things I would like to have done better, but also things I am really proud of. My hope for this next project is to improve both aspects.
If you'd love to support me for whatever I end up making next & have the means for it, I have set up a Patreon where I intend to give monthly updates on whatever I'm doing (though, don't expect news on the next game right away... any support is still much appreciated though!!!)
That's all for now!!! Have fun decorating your Steam profile with Mesma goodies. Show off your profile to your friends & harass them into playing it too (maybe not quite that extreme, but you know, apparently it's a good game.)
Ta, till next time!
