These are exiting times for me as releasing a project so near to ones personal experiences gives great perspective into how you get to where you are now. I started production with a simple concept in mind which was the studio apartment I used to live in which was the only thing I could afford at the time. as you can imagine that meant I could not be picky about where I lived and so I chose ásbru. Even though Iceland is by most manures a wealthy country living here is very expensive and the impoverished areas do reflect that for sure but I got to say. I felt it had allot of charm and so I created a pixel art rendition of the complex I used to reside in.
from there this project became a grim reflection of how artistry and struggle often go hand in hand as I became enamoured with creating sculptures and drawing while I was living there. In Complex 629 I try my best to represent this feeling of obsession with creating art as the story of the game is about exactly that. you play a strange looking fellow named blue who wishes to complete an aluminium sculpture. this form of art is something i have developed over many years and I cant recall seeing it anywhere else. heres an example of my work
when I constructed this 50 cm tall sculpture I had about a whole week off work and I vividly remember waking up with this idea and beginning work and not stopping for the whole day. then repeating this prosses without respite for the whole weak until it was painted and completed. Working with aluminium is tough as I use only three things; the aluminium it self, a hammer and aluminium tape and those simple tools will slice your fingers to ribbons when you use them for extended periods of time but persistence was my only option while crafting it as it was that rewarding to do! and I got to say creating this game gives me a similar amount of joy as development is extremely rewarding to me as an artist!
