Howdy, wannabe world tyrants!
Last time we went over the colorful characters of Super World War, in today’s article we’ll dive deep in the custom games.
The custom game mode allows you to jump straight into the game without bothering with the storyline or scripted maps of the Story Mode. Choose a game mode, a map, select your favorite settings and you’re good to go!
Game Modes and Maps
First you’ll have to select the game mode of your choice, then a map.
In Battle mode, you’ll fight to conquer all your opponent’s headquarters. Lose yours and get eliminated!
Skirmish is more straightforward: no economy, no unit production. Destroy all your enemies' units (or let them fight each other and finish them off) and win by being the last one standing!
Once you know how you want to play, you can choose one of the 80 maps available in the game. Each one is meant to be played with a certain number of players but it is possible to play with less.
For each map, a preview is available to give a glimpse of it and help you choose one you’ll like. The numbers on those previews let you know where each player starts.
Game settings
Once the battlefield is set, the fun part begins!
In the Game Settings screen you’ll choose who will play and how the parameters will affect your game.
Characters
Depending on the chosen map, there is a slot for each character. For each one, you can:
Select the character to be used for this player (use the eye icon to get information about their Super Weapon)
Assign a color. Style is as important as victory itself!
You can use the Team setting in order to play with teams. Each player in the same team will share the visibility on the map and win or lose together. The teams don’t have to be balanced; want a revenge against your annoying friend? Challenge them with a plucky 3 vs 1!
Select if the character is played by a real player or the AI. No, you can’t play a game with only AI, it is raised only to fight against humans! If there is more than one player, the game will be played in hot seat.
Settings
Now that we know who will be the protagonists, it’s time to set the parameters. Sure you might want to play Super World War as it was designed to be played and keep all settings at the default value, but it’s your game and you might want a bit more chaos!
Weather
Weather affects the units’ vision and movement during a game. The weather setting allows you to select a preset to determine which weather will appear during the game and along with its probability.
Classic is the default weather template, using all the weather conditions existing in the game and having a better probability to have a sunny weather.
Each other template deactivates some conditions to let you play only with your favourites. You don’t like having your movement or vision to be reduced? Golden Coast is made for you! Tired of the sweltering sun? Try the frozen template (and be ready for a loooooong game).
Game duration
Not sure you’ll have the time to complete the game? Game Duration allows you to select a maximum number of turns for your game. If there is no winner at the end of the last turn, the player with the highest army value wins the game.
Army value is the cumulative cost of all your units, adjusted by their remaining lifepoints. It is displayed at the top of the screen.
Turn duration
This option is mostly useful for online games to prevent players from keeping the others waiting for an eternity but it can be used in local games too if it suits your tastes. This option will activate a turn timer during each player’s turn. Once the time runs out: your turn ends, no matter what you were doing! The timer is paused when an animation is playing.
Fog of War
This allows you to deactivate the Fog of War. If it is disabled the full map will be visible at all times. Pope-Man will be unhappy with this setting as it reduces the power of his Super Weapon.
Starting money
Think you should start with a little money bonus when the game begins in order to rush toward your enemies with the heavy tank you always dreamed of? Why not give you a boost? But be aware that all your opponents will benefit from the same bonus!
Money multiplier
Tired of the slow rhythm of the economy? This parameter will multiply the money produced each turn of the game.
Super Power
This option lets you play without the Super Weapons. Tired of having your units stolen by Johnny Capulacci or reduced to atoms by Grandma? Deactivate the Super Powers and fight in a fair battle!
Difficulty
This setting allows you to adjust the AI difficulty. It won’t change how it behaves but will make it cheat with the game’s rules. The difficulty affects the money gained, the critical and unluck hits probability and if the AI is affected by the Fog of War.
Easy | Normal | Hard | Very hard | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Affected by fog of war? | Yes | Yes | No | No |
Money multiplier | x1 | x1 | x1.2 | x1.5 |
Critical probability | 5% | 10% | 20% | 30% |
Unluck probability | 20% | 10% | 10% | 5% |
You should know everything you need to customize your games as much as you want.
