Combat in Knightmare is now clearer, more impactful, and a little more satisfying.
Four combat effects received new animations: Damage Aura, the scythe's Reaping Blow, the crossbow's Consecrated Explosion, and the freezing aura of Ring of Winter. This is not only a visual upgrade. The effects now communicate their actual range more clearly, making it easier to see who is safe and who has stepped too close.
Damage Aura finally shows its true range
A golden animated ring now forms around the knight and clearly displays the damage area for the entire duration. Divine Expansion increases the visible ring together with the ability's actual range.
Each variant also remains recognizable at a glance:
Martyrdom turns the ring blood red.
Searing Benediction gives it a searing orange tint.
The standard aura keeps its pale golden glow.
If an enemy stands inside the aura, it takes damage.

Reaping Blow leaves a real wound
The old circles have been replaced by a violent burst of blood and particle effects. The new effect shows the affected area more clearly, remains readable in the middle of a horde, and gives scythe kills more weight. Reaping Blow now feels like a genuinely bloody explosion.

A cleaner Consecrated Explosion
The crossbow's consecrated blast is now more visible, more reliable, and better aligned with its damage area. The animation plays once, disappears cleanly, and no longer lingers on screen. Crossbow impacts feel stronger and are easier to read in dense combat.
This effect is temporary for now. Our artist is working on a replacement that better matches the game's art style and delivers a stronger visual impact. The improved effect will arrive in the next update.
Ring of Winter marks the edge of the cold
Ring of Winter received a new animated frost aura. The visible ring now clearly shows the slowing area and grows together with the effect's range.
Enemies, including the boss, are slowed only while inside the aura. Targets outside the ring remain unaffected, so players can immediately see where the aura is active.
Why this matters
Late in a run, there is no time to wonder how far an ability reaches. The new effects provide a clearer answer directly on screen:
damage and slowing areas are easier to see;
ability variants are faster to recognize;
impacts feel stronger;
combat remains clearer among hundreds of enemies.
The holy ring is brighter. The scythe is bloodier. The crossbow explosion is more visible. And the frost ends exactly where its power ends.
