This Saturday at xuanguan, Pete Jiadong Qiang will host a walkthrough of Project Search (2024), his earlier game work and part of the wider universe surrounding NeuroPatrol.
An atmospheric visual novel of Chinese immortality cultivation, Project Search follows scholar Qian Jiangmin through collapsed pagodas, grotto-heavens and transcendental urban spaces. Moving across the spectral landscapes of Linhai, Chongqing and Dunhuang, the game constructs a speculative world in which Daoist cosmology, Chinese science fiction, architectural imagination and personal myths are deeply intertwined.
Through Pete’s narration, the walkthrough invites the audience into the layered world of Project Search — a space of bodies, buildings and virtual passages, where earlier traces of his practice begin to echo the neurotechnological dimensions of NeuroPatrol.
Join us this Saturday, 11 July, 4pm at xuanguan. You are welcome to bring your laptop and play along with us.

A research office, a hub, an assembly point, a slow archive, a reader, a pivot.
xuanguan 玄关 dwells in the interspace of entry and pause. It is a space that explores the intersections of art, science, and society through the lens of Asian technological cultures. It examines how technologies are made, lived, and culturally situated across Asia, and how these realities entangle with global discourse.
Through exhibitions, gatherings, and interdisciplinary research, xuanguan advances critical cross-cultural understanding as essential to engaging contemporary science and technology. Operating in the interstices of knowledge systems, it translates and channels ideas across contexts.
