What’s next for A Simple Ball Game?

The first demo for A Simple Ball Game is now over!

Thank you to everyone for playing! It was an exciting time and I can’t wait to share more details about the next demo. In the meantime, look for news on my Socials.

If you’re interested in a more in-depth look at some of the key learnings from this demo and some of the specific adjustments that will come, read on!

POST-DEMO LEARNINGS

(1) Some levels are hard in the wrong way.

A Simple Ball Game is a hard game. However, I want its difficulty to ENCOURAGE creatively.

QUESTION: How should certain stages be adjusted to better encourage creativity?

I’ll be posting some Stage Rework videos on my ▶️ YouTube Channel ▶️ to showcase these adjustments. Hope to see you there!

(2) Many players are approaching gameplay in an interesting way.

Initially, I thought the “slow and steady” strategy would be more popular. Instead, most players prefer the “hold forward and hope for the best” approach. So... let's make that strategy more viable!

QUESTION: How should some stages be tweaked to better allow for multiple strategies?

(3) Mouse & Keyboard is more popular than expected.

There's no getting around it, controller has an “advantage” over mouse & keyboard in games like this, precision. A control stick allows for many more input combinations than arrow keys do. It's time to bring keyboard & mouse up to speed!

QUESTION: How can the precision of a control stick be replicated with mouse & keyboard?

That's all for now! Stay Cozy.
