The Laser Games update beta 24-11-1 is now live!
The big change: nametags!
Nametags are now added to each player! While by default the nametags will be set to a team-default value, they are set up to allow for custom styles so your name can be your own style, as well as server override control for your future mods.
The nametag object is also set up to be versatile for modding and design- we hope to use this as the base for a tutorial level in a future update!
Server creation and searching
The game searching menu has been fixed and updated- now you can find open games via Steam networking, and filter by LAN, with additional filters coming soon.
We also redesigned the game creation menu for a more streamlined experience, and to make room for future settings regarding gametypes and maps. Hosting games should be simple and easy now!
Additional major changes
- Fixed issue where players sometimes won't spawn in properly, especially in cases of high latency- this was caused by the HUD not spawning in.
- fixed weapon audio charge sounds when playing on a server.
- fixed a bug which bots would abuse which allowed them to spam weapon fire right after running out of charge.
- Fixed and optimized some network replication issues.
What's next?
- Dedicated server support, and customization for maps and gametypes.
- basic player customization: set your name and favorite colors!
- Free-For-All: it was in the prototype but hasn't been updated in a while
- improved weapon and character models
- map cleanup; additional maps and gametypes
Persisting issues
- AI players are still dumb, this is something that we are looking into extensively to improve.
- Nametags have just been released, but if there are any cases where you don't seem them for other players, let us know!
- In the server browser, games may show up more than once.
- There might be some menu issues after leaving a game and going back to the main menu
- 3rd person mode and the right hand switch (set to keys c and v if you want to see for yourself) are still buggy. The character still doesn't know how to properly hold onto the weapon, so shooting can still appear to trail off.
Anything else?
In spirit of the holidays... Hop into the game for a festive surprise!
