Introduction
Hi everyone from Yooper Game Studios! Being a solo indie dev, I've been hard at work implementing quality-of-life features and bug fixes from the demo back in October. Life gets busy, but as I wrap up the last bits of development and get ready for the full release of Lamentations I wanted to blog a bit about the game, features, enemy types, and whatnot. Thanks for checking out the game, and I hope it meets expectations for us indie-horror players on Steam!
Maps & Modes
The game will ship with two areas, "Backrooms" and "Poolrooms". I know that may not seem like a lot of content... BUT each area includes 3 difficulties and a PvP option which change the map in major ways and can be looked at as separate levels completely. Below explains a little bit about each area, difficulty, and the PvP mode:
Areas
- Backrooms: Classic yellow "endless" area we are familiar with. Make sure to turn on your flashlight, as this take on a classic makes the environment much darker, and enemies could be lurking around any corner! Make sure you follow environmental hints left scattered in blood on the walls or you may find yourself getting lost in the backrooms...
- Poolrooms: Erie pool-tile covered rooms await those lost in the poolrooms. Don't fret, it seems that an otherwordly light pierces through some of the windows, allocating some additional light for traversal. Jump into the waters to explore the depths of the poolrooms to turn on the elevator and escape back to sanity.
Difficulties
- Misery: Get the basics of the area, mechanics, and acquire GP (money) to equip a better load-out in subsequent runs and higher difficulties. But don't slack off, enemies are plenty and the wrong move could be your last!
- Torment: Fight more difficult enemies and plenty more of them, rooms are changed up and additional areas are added. It will take a solid plan of attack and strategy to move throughout the room and get out alive! Remember to bring a bigger gun.
- Nightmare: Only meant for those who really want a challenge! Boss monsters roam while all other enemies stalk every corner waiting for you and your team to make a wrong move trying to get out alive. Recommended only to be attempted with a full team ready to die, make sure to buy extra ammo.
PvP Wager Matches
- Each player buys their loadout and must be the first either to turn on their respective elevator and escape or be the last one standing! Winner takes all the money spent between the two players during spawn. The map is redesigned to be more condensed so be prepared to check your six, AI enemies still linger in the shadows...
Load-out Options
Before you spawn each player purchases weapons, ammo, attachments, items, and abilities using GP gathered from previously successful runs. Below gives details on the options available before each run:

Weapons
NOTE: Each player is equipped with a default pistol with one clip of ammo automatically in addition to other purchases.
- SMG: A high rate-of-fire weapon for close quarter encounters. Melt enemies and monsters that startle you, just be careful on how long you hold the trigger down for. [Damage: 25-40, Reload: 2.33s, Mag Size: 37]
- Assault Rifle: Slower firing weapon, but each bullet packs a deeper punch! Good for longer-ranged targets that may be approaching. [Damage: 55-70, Reload: 2.67s, Mag Size: 31]
- Shotgun: Lower mag sizes and good for getting up close and personal, make sure whatever is in front of you isn't. [Damage: 20-45/pellet, Reload: 2.26s (+0.77s/shell), Mag Size: 8]
- Sniper Rifle: Get the drop on far-away targets or quickly put an end to anything at a distance. The most expensive option for sure, but may be necessary to take care of enemies before they get a chance to know you are there. [Damage: 200-250, Reload: 4.0s, Mag Size: 9]
Perks
- Agility Boots: Increases walk and run speed by 25%.
- Quick Hands: Increases reload speed for all weapons by 50%.
- Collector: Increases the value of all gold and cash pickups by 100%..
- Caffeine Pills: Increases max stamina by 50%
Items & Attachments
- Red dot, Reflex, and ACOG sights: Additional replacement for your iron-sights on your purchased weapon or default pistol.
- Silencer: If out of sight, take out enemies without alerting them.
- Grip: Reduce weapon spread and recoil.
- Ammo Clip: Buy up to 3 additional clips of ammo to spawn in with.
- Ammo Box: Drop on the ground for you and your teammates to fully max out your ammunition. Lasts only 10 seconds before despawning.
- Scanner: View the scanner to get a ping on nearby enemies and loot, can be valuable before entering a room.
Enemy Types
- Zombie: Once seen, these monsters will relentlessly pursue you with speed! Good thing they are easy to dispatch with some careful shooting, just make sure they don't get too close for long.
- Crawler: These insectoid creatures can be found in various sizes creeping around each area, meticulously planning to devour you with razor sharp teeth.
- Witch: Doomed to roam the backrooms in torment, these lost souls wait in silence until they see their next victim. Cover your ears!
- Pologamous: These monsters are not harmful at a glance unless provoked, they spend their time searching for the dead to add to their collection of limbs.
- Weeper: Saddened to stone, these monsters only can move when out-of-sight. Be sure to keep an eye on them so they don't trap you in a corner and transform you into one of them!
- Conjuror: Lost for eternity but connected to all those lost in the backrooms, their goal is to add your consciousness to their collection. If they are shot, or if they get too close, another enemy will be conjured to take their place!
- Ghouls: The strongest wills are the hardest to break. Lost roaming soldiers of the past refusing to die end up being consumed by darkness, blaming all those who are alive for their condition. Watch out!
Additional Content
- Steam Leaderboards: A full suite of Steam Leaderboards for each area and difficulty will be available at launch. Race against your friends and the world to be the fastest to clear each room, have the most GP, or the highest amount of kills within the backrooms!
- Steam Achievements: For the video game perfectionists out there wanting another trophy to display on their Steam profile, achievements are fully supported!
- Gun Shop: Need another reason to spend your hard-earned GP currency outside the load out menu? Well show off your dominance by equipping special weapon skins for each of type of gun in the game. Don't just tell your friends how good you are at the game, show them while you guide them through the backrooms.
