Demo Patch 0.6.5 : Performance, Co-op & Quality of Life
Your feedback has been incredibly useful. We fixed performance issues, improved co-op, improved UI and many small features we've been adding to the main game over the past two months. We wanted to patch the demo to better represent where the final experience is heading.
Performance improvements
A lot of people experienced terrible stuttering, especially when locking the game at 60fps. The game had some pretty serious issues we didn't know about and people rightfully complained about it. In those discussions a user named Gandi pointed something out to us we didn't know about.
After investigating we found several layered issues all contributing to the stuttering. The camera was reading the player's position at 50 times per second while rendering at 60fps, causing rhythmic freezes and snapping during movement. On top of that, Windows has a timing quirk that caused consistent fps drops specifically at 60 and 72fps caps but not at 30, 120 or 144. We also found that changing graphics quality settings was silently resetting vsync, causing uncapped framerates for some high refresh rate monitor users.
All three are now fixed. The result should be a noticeably smoother experience! But we won't stop here, performance is a never ending battle and we'll keep fixing stuff. If those fixes created any new issues jump by at discussions to let us know!
Two-Controller Support & Local Co-op Improvements
Local co-op got a significant update. Players can now use two controllers simultaneously.
Beyond the controller support we also put a lot of work into making co-op actually feel good to play. The two players are now tethered when they drift too far apart. We also added a recovery system that teleports a player back to their partner when something goes wrong, like falling through a hole for example. These are the kinds of small things that make a big difference in a shared experience, and we'll keep building on them.
Improved UI & quality of life
We've also improved the inventory experience with clearer borders between categories, along with various quality of life improvements and new experimental features.
Thank you all so much for sticking around despite the rough edges and for taking the time to give feedback. We know it should've been smoother from the start, but we're learning as we go and working hard to make it the best it can be <3
