Hello, dear players! After many long months and thousands of hours of hard work, the moment we’ve all been eagerly waiting for has finally arrived.
Starting today, you can play SPORTAL!
In today’s post, we’ll tell you a bit more about ourselves and how the game came to life.
Inspirations:
SPORTAL is inspired by classic FPS games. Quake 1 is one of my favorite games ever, as is the slightly later Painkiller. However, we also drew inspiration from other genres—mainly action roguelikes like Vampire Survivors.
Our other inspirations include retro horror and the 1950s in general. We absolutely love the cheesy monsters from that era! Let us know if you feel that retro vibe while playing!
About artstyle:
Both of us have a background in art, so the game's visuals were incredibly important to us. From the very beginning, we focused on a highly stylized look that would stand out. In short, the game was meant to have a retro look.
Initially, the color palette was dominated by muted tones.
Later on, thanks to the encouragement of our publisher, we added more life and color. It was a great decision.
The background textures remained muted, but we popped the colors of the most important elements, like enemies, weapons, and loot.
Music:
The music was inspired by rock and alternative music from the '80s, '90s, and 2000s. Once again, our soundtrack was composed by Tomasz Napierała. We think he created something truly special, and we absolutely love playing the game with his music. Let us know if you like it too! Tomek really needs all the support he can get right now, as he recently quit his corporate job to compose full-time!
A few words about us:
We’ve been operating as a team under the name Sleepwalking Potatoes for over 4 years now. Before that, we completed several projects together under different names. We are both 44 years old and have known each other since high school. We work 100% remotely, each from our own home.
Wojtek’s setup - Art / Design:
Andy’s setup - Code / Design:
We built the game, now it's time for you to unleash the carnage!
But hey, we won't bore you any longer—now it's your turn! We are absolutely exhausted after this recent intense sprint. Once we crash and wake up, we'll be diving straight into your feedback! We can’t wait to see your reactions.
Plans & Feedback:
Our post-launch plan is simple: to listen to your feedback. If any bugs pop up, we’ll fix them as quickly as possible.
A Small Request
If you play the game and enjoy it, please don’t forget to leave a review on Steam! It really helps us fight the ruthless algorithms!
That’s all for today. View game page
Have fun playing!
