EDIT: These problems have been resolved thanks in big part to the awesome developers of the connection tool we use! Expect the update shortly!
Hey guys! Okay, we know how bad this looks coming in late again after having showed up late to the party with the Fully Loaded update. Actually the circumstances are kind of different this time. We built out the content update in time (as far as we felt could safely be done in the time given) and then.... okay this is gonna get slightly technical.
Let's Get Technical
The connection tool we use to get you fine folks hooked into one another had an update released which had some unexpected problems. The connection success rate with the update among our team dropped noticeably. While this is unfortunate, we don't fault the good folks developing the tool - their team is about the same size as ours, and we know that testing can be limited when you're small. In fact, we're not without fault here by any means. I personally (this is Jordan here) failed to set up my firewall correctly on my new work computer and dramatically increased the time required for testing, contributing greatly to the holdup and failures - talk about a taste of your own medicine, eh?
So, the question we would expect here is: why can't you go back? Can't you just use the old version of the connection tool? Yes! And no! Okay, so Unity's asset store works in a funny (but not 'ha-ha' funny) kind of way. Once you update an asset from the store, there is no going back to a previous version (including reverting from your git or DVCS version control software). So in order to revert, we have to have a previous version built and sent to us from the creators of the connection tool. Once we have that in place, we can finally connect to one another well enough to test all the cool new content and network-related fixes we've been adding! Finally, we will be able to release the update we built!
EDIT AGAIN: that build got sent to us! Thanks again!
Player of the Month
But, like last time our update didn't come out in time, we still want to announce our Player of the Month!
After much deliberating, we've picked JJxDoge!
JJxDoge has been an avid player since just after launch, and has done a fantastic job of keeping the forums a lively place for discussion. He is always promoting participation in the Deeper community, in addition to helping us nail down Mac compatibility! Whether JJxDoge is posting feedback in the forums, detailing bug reports, contributing to the Wiki, or showing up our livestreams to feed us a steady stream of topics and questions to bounce off of, JJxDoge is always there. He is one of our most active and lighthearted community members, and for that, we think he deserves to be May's Player of the Month.
As usual, JJxDoge will be recieving 4 free copies of We Need To Go Deeper to distribute at his will, and will be displayed on the Main Menu until next month's update!
Thanks once again JJxDoge, and thanks to everyone for helping us keep the game chugging along! The We Need To Go Deeper community is ever-growing thanks to all of you folks helping us spread the word, and we couldn't be more grateful! ːsteamhappyː
Note: because of our inability to produce any Steam builds unti the connection tool problem had been fixed, the main menu didn't reflect JJxDoge's top-dog status as player of the month until we got it fixed. Super sorry about that bud!
