Behind Cat-Astrophy
When you see Cat-Astrophy, you probably think of its combat, its pixel art, or Polo exploring a universe full of danger. However, behind every scene, every mechanic, and every animation are years of learning, passion, and countless hours of work.
Today we want to share how this project was born and how the adventure of Heraan Studios began.
It all started with a dream
Development of Cat-Astrophy began when I was 16 years old. At that time there was no studio, no professional experience, and no large team. There was only the desire to learn and the goal of creating a video game that could one day reach players all around the world.
Over the years, the project has evolved constantly. We have created prototypes, redesigned entire systems, and learned from every mistake until we built the experience that Cat-Astrophy represents today.
Much more than a roguelite
Our goal was never to make just another roguelite.
We wanted to combine dynamic combat, precision platforming, exploration, and a deep build system, creating an experience where every run would feel different and where experimenting with modules and abilities would be as fun as discovering new planets.
Every design decision aims to give the player the freedom to play in their own way and discover new strategies in every run.
Polo, the heart of the project
Polo is not an ordinary protagonist.
He is inspired by my own cat and was the spark that brought this entire universe to life. From that idea came a science fiction, mystery, and exploration story that has grown alongside the development of the game itself.
His personality and his journey perfectly represent the spirit of Cat-Astrophy.
