Hey everyone!
A little over a year ago, I was laid off from my job as a product manager. Instead of jumping back into the corporate world, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue something I’ve always been passionate about — game development. It was a terrifying but exciting decision, especially since I had to start from scratch, teaching myself how to code and use Unity.
After countless late nights, frustrating bugs, and small victories, I’m thrilled (and a bit nervous) to share that my first game, Wave Defense: Trappist, is nearly ready for launch. It’s a roguelike tower defense game where you command a customizable mech to defend your base while exploring the Trappist solar system. Honestly, it’s been a wild ride bringing this world to life.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Mech Customization: I wanted to give players the freedom to build their own badass mechs, from weapon loadouts to aesthetic tweaks. Every run can feel different depending on how you kit out your mech.
- Strategic Gameplay: You’ll need to think on your feet, balancing resource gathering with base defense as waves of alien enemies try to take you down.
- A Killer Soundtrack: I was lucky enough to collaborate with techno artist Joel Mull, whose music brings an intense, immersive vibe to the game.
- Moebius inspired art style: I've been drawing a lot of inspiration from Jean Giraud's playful and varm palette he used when designing this game.
If you’re into games that challenge you to think strategically while letting you blow stuff up in a cool mech, I’d love it if you would join our community! Thanks for reading, and I’d be happy to answer any questions about the game or my journey into game development. It’s been a crazy year, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I will continue to post dev blogs every Wednesday so stay tuned! ;)
