Lately it has been features upon features: avatars, face tracking, webcam tracking, creator tools. This update is about playing.
FFA and Team FFA

• Shots land where you aim, in VR and on desktop, with a muzzle flash, a glowing bolt and an impact.
• Hit markers, damage numbers and hit sounds, so you know when you connect.
• A new gun, the KRS-85 SMG, beside the pistol and the rifle. Magazines for each; press R to reload on desktop (with a puff of steam), or an empty gun reloads itself.
• Shields and health pickups in every gun match: grab a heart for health, a shield for a shield that takes hits first.
• Your health and rounds on screen, and on your wrist in VR.
• Knocked out? You burst into gold coins and come back through a portal a moment later.
• In team matches, red and blue marks show who is on your side.

Play with bots

• Host a match on your own and a bot joins you. When a friend joins, it steps aside.
• Want more? Pick up to nine bots in Settings, under the new Host tab: enough for a full five on five. Bots play team matches too, and grab pickups when they need them.

Nixie's daily dares

• A new Dares button on the Home page. Nixie will point you to it.
• Twelve dares in four sets, from Easy to Hardest: grab a head plate in the hub, jump into the dark in the Lab and save yourself, jog a lap of the Park, play and win FFA and team matches, reach stage 3 on Galaxica, win a full five on five, and find Nixie's lost things in the hub.
• The harder the dare, the more gold: 15 to 50 the first time, and they come back every day for a little more. Today's dare pays a bonus on top, and finishing a whole set pays 50 to 250. A little fanfare plays every time.
• Nixie waits for you in her worlds and eggs you on. She has also lost a few things: find them for gold.
• Fall out of a world and you are put back.

Levels and badges

• Earn XP by playing together. Your level shows on your head plate, with a gold glow and a jingle when it goes up.
• Skill badges for the arcade, pool, FFA, team matches, the Park and the dares, in bronze, silver and gold.
• Your profile shows your level, badges and achievements, and you can hide any badge you do not want to show.

Gold

• Guns from a pad cost a little gold: pistol 5, SMG 10, rifle 15, and the price floats over every gun. Arcade and pool games cost 5 a play.

Easier on the eyes

• Muzzle flashes and impact hits are much smaller and gentler on every gun, kinder to anyone sensitive to flashing light.

Also new

• Everything new is translated into all of the game's languages.
• Call everyone: host a public world, or your home, and ask every player online to come and play or hang out. They get a small box to join.
• New Workshop maps show up right away, with a Not verified badge until the team has checked them.
• A portal shows when players arrive and leave.
• Desktop: the last chat lines show in the corner of the screen.
• Settings: a Host tab with every host option in one place. VR: a Gun Angle setting in Comfort.
• Avatars that Steam is slow to send are asked for again instead of given up on.
• VR: the chat keyboard's Close button is easy to reach.
• If your game is too old to join the hub, it tells you to update.
• Desktop: guns sit like in a shooter and aiming zooms in. No game keys fire while you type in chat.
• Every start uses your own movement style. Workshop maps with a broken game mode play right.
• VR: run in place is smoother (no more stop and go), and your health sits over your wrist, always facing you.
• If a world cannot be opened, you are taken home instead of being stuck on black.
• The game now opens with the VR Realms logo.
