We know it’s been a bit quiet here so far, but we want to change that. That’s why we’ve decided to start posting regular updates here to keep you informed about the progress of our game development. We’ll begin by sharing how our journey in game production started and gradually dive into more technical topics and plans for the future.
As aspiring game developers, we had many ideas, but we knew we didn’t want to start with a massive project that could take ages to finish - if it ever did. We wanted to see how well we worked together, what we were capable of, and create something modern, with strategic decision-making and a visually appealing experience. That’s how the idea for a Tower Defense game with Deck Building elements came to be, initially called Project Monolith. It has since evolved into Wandering Monolith: Rogue TD, but let’s start from the beginning.
Wandering Monolith: Rogue TD, the game we’ll be discussing here, is born out of our fascination with Tower Defense games. The main inspirations are Rogue Tower and Plants vs. Zombies (see if you can guess which mechanics are inspired by which game!).
To deepen the combat system, we introduced different attack and armor types, interacting in a rock-paper-scissors style - in our game, these are Void, Celestial, Spectral, Oblivion, and Abyss. Before each run, players are informed of the types of enemies and armor they will face. Based on this, they must decide which towers to use and which upgrades to include in their deck.
These upgrades won’t just increase stats, like attack +1. Some will completely change how a tower is used. Players will unlock new upgrade cards between runs and create their own decks for future playthroughs.
With procedurally generated maps in real-time, this creates countless scenarios where players must show their strategic planning skills.
Though gameplay is the focus, we wanted to include a story as well. Without giving away too much, one key element is that the Monolith - the player - is actually the aggressor, invading a world, while hordes of enemies defend against the onslaught.

We hope this small introduction gives you a good idea of what our game is about.
