Greetings lost souls!
It’s been a month and a half since our previous post and a lot has been done in the meantime.
The major thing is that we’ve opened a public playtest for the upcoming Heretical Demo!
That’s why we want to use this opportunity to give a big THANK YOU to all the people in our Discord that have joined the playtest.
All your feedback and bug reports are both incredibly helpful and rewarding, as we can see that you understand what kind of game Heretical is supposed to be. This helped us to quickly push fixes and changes, showing that all the feedback we got from the playtesters really means A LOT!
As the Demo playtest is still open, if you’d like to join, you can request access directly from Heretical’s Steam page:
Besides all the feedback and bug fixes, we’ve also added more ambient sounds and sound effects, as well as various subtle mechanics. For example, there’s an interactable guillotine, buckets of festering liquid being spilled through windows, as well as the character’s prolonged idle mechanic where they sit down and chill for a while over a tobacco pipe.
The goal of all of this is to increase the feeling of immersion and entice the players to explore every nook and cranny of this grim world of Heretical.
The Demo currently provides only a small slice of the game’s entire world, allowing the players to quickly go through the game runs, engage in two boss fights, and achieve Victory. Thanks to the Prophecy achievement system, it takes about 3-4 hours of playtime to fulfill all of them and unlock additional game mechanics not available at the start.
At this point, we’re aiming to officially publish the Demo sometime in early July, so keep your eyes open for more announcements on our Steam page or Heretical X (Twitter) profile.
And if you want to join our Discord community, here’s the invite link: https://discord.gg/UDWbEGAP
That’s it for now, talk to you in a week’s time.
