Hello, Operators! We've been hard at work developing content for this update, and we're finally ready to get it into everyone's hands! Not only does this update come with a new Gamemode, but it also comes with a whole suite of improvements and optimizations across the board!
First off, let's start with our first major announcement: The Survival Gamemode!
Survival is our new and improved version of the Codename CURE 1 Survival Gamemode. Like the first CURE, it's a wave based survival gamemode. However, it features multiple new features that make it a lot more interesting and fun! Namely, randomized "Rush waves", Boss Waves, and procedurally generated tile-based survival maps, like what exists in the Bomb Extract Gamemode. This results in an extremely fun, high octane experience, with lots of replayability!
The maps are designed in a way where there is a "core" in the center, and a random variety of "edges", random ToD's, etc., having lots of variety with both maps. Yes, you heard that right - This Gamemode launches with 2 Maps! (And it's the reason why it took so long... Sorry! More maps are on the way, they just take a long time to make.)
The update comes with 14 new Achievements, too, for all of you Achievement Hunters out there! We had tons of fun playing it internally while developing it, and we're excited to play with you all now that the update is out! Survival also comes with a suite of zombie navigation improvements and functionality, as well as Zog nerfs. Yes, Zogs have been nerfed - Now, whenever they leap, they will always try to miss 100% of the time. They also no longer try to accurately leap from mid-close range. The way Zogs function now, is they will leap to gain distance, and then once they're close enough, they will run to you the rest of the way. This should significantly reduce the amount of instances where they randomly snipe players through hordes or other annoying situations, giving players better opportunity to actually react, but they are still very much a threat.
This update also will come with pretty significant optimization improvements. We've greatly reduced the texture size of a very large amount of textures across the board, fixed a lot of shader issues (No more oiled up props, character models have better shaders, etc.), and significantly optimized and rebuilt certain effects that were hurting performance. Flame Grenades should be a LOT cheaper, now! On top of that, it wasn't just graphics that got optimizations. Our Lag Compensation and networking Systems have been significantly improved, and ping should be a lot less noticeable now. We've fixed all sorts of things, too, like the weird stuttering issue that would occur when late joining that some players were experiencing. You should not have to lead shots anymore on any ping below 220, and the overall gameplay experience as a client should be significantly improved.
Also, for Casual/Average difficulties, the post bomb plant horde on Bomb Extract missions now has a reduced number of total enemies. This should both make the escape sections of Casual/Average Bomb Extract notably easier than before, and also make it clearer to new players that this wave is not actually infinite. Skilled and Insane are left unchanged though, as we are satisfied with the challenge of those difficulties.
There's a lot of other things we've done in this update, too, so a quick cliffnotes version of some notable things we've added are:
- Polished and overhauled third person running animations on playermodels to make them look better and more natural
- Improved positioning and animations on various viewmodel weapons (And overhauled the TAR-17 viewmodel animations entirely!)
- Made the wave horde sound indicator separate from the Music Slider, so that players who have their music muted or low volume will still hear horde sounds
- Various audio and attenuation fixes
- Lots of bug fixes
(And more!)
