Bastion Hearts playtime soars as the Quality of Life updates continue to roll in!
Hello Guildmasters,
This week we've got a new boss rework, brand new icons for ALL items, and drag and drop unit placement!
Starting off, the second boss in the game (spoiler alert) used to be a simple gimmick based boss. Which boiled down to, "hey, don't block me or your team dies!". Which sounds fun on paper (sort of) but in practice it's boring and one dimensional... Just spam archers and never block him. Not very fun. Keeping with the theme/lore behind this second boss, we've redesigned him in preparation for his new art to be ready. Here's a quick look at his art (in-progress):

As you can see, this new boss is riding a mount, so you can expect behaviors related to how a horseback, or in this case, ELK-BACK rider would behave. Expect dashes towards your units, dealing IMMENSE damage.... If only there was a way to move your units out of his way...?
Here's a short video (without final art) demonstrating how the boss will behave during the fight!
This fight is way more interactive, with a lot of fun and memorable moments sure to be created. We hope you guys enjoy this fight a lot more than our old lame design. It should be a great way to finish the demo, off with a strong bang!
For those of you with keen eyes when watching the boss demo video, you'll now see the unit frames pulsing! Every so often, units that 1. aren't dead 2. are purchasable (the player has the DP for them), and 3. aren't already on the board have their frames pulse to let you know that they are deployable!! This should help your eyes pick up on what units are missing from the board during the action.
Moving on, you can now place units via dragging and dropping. This was a feature requested by a few of you, so why not implement it, right?
We've also got a new look for our shop, along with item art for ALL EXISTING ITEMS!!! Woo hoo!! No more ugly placeholder art! All the icons are bigger, and much easier to see on smaller screens.
Here's how that looks:

Before we ride off into the sunset on our trusty elk steed, we've also got one more change to share. We've added a shop button to the equipment screen! This should help with ease of access to the shop and in general to go between the two menus.
Check it out:

Clicking the 'Item Shop' button will leave the equipment screen up, while also pulling up the shop for you to buy items and close to end up right back where you wanted to be!
Here's some other changes that were made that are a bit less interesting:
- Fixed broken relocation cooldown for any subsequent playthroughs of the map 17 boss.
- Fixed edge case bugs related to opening shop when unit upgrade UI is open
- Changed some basic enemies to elite wolf version on map 11 to make it a bit more challenging.
- Added way more mobs during the 2nd boss fight to make it more challenging.
- Added some polish to the item shop text for better color variation, readability, and contrast
- Fixed enemies clipping upward when being repeatedly blocked! This bug has been around since the early days of the game! Woo hoo!
- Fixed a nasty bug where DP regeneration didn't happen sometimes after freshly launching the game.
That's all for this update! We can't wait to hear the fun moments that come out of the new 2nd boss if you can make it that far! We've got a lot of really fun stuff planned for the future of Bastion Heart. And I can't wait to share it with you.
Keep slaying those shadow-waivers!
Until next time, Mnew out!
