Hey Goblins,
Today is the anniversary of the start of our collaboration and we wanted to mark the day with a special announcement that we’re both very excited about: we’re permanently dropping the price of Gobsmacked to $5. It won’t go on sale again. The price is $5, always and forever.
Here's a video about it. Or just keep reading. Such options!
This is the result of a change in our thinking about how we price our games writ large. There are very smart people out there with very well-reasoned ideas about how to make money in games. About how to capture and keep players’ attention. About how to A/B the perfect marketing message. About how to design mechanics themselves that produce profitable outcomes.
But that’s not us. And many of those people might say we’re idiots for not doing that stuff. Okay, fine, we’re idiots.
But neither of us want to spend any of the sand in our mortal hourglasses scheming how we can make the maximum amount of money from you all. It feels like such a poor use of precious time to us. We want to spend our time making small, expressive, colorful, obnoxious games whose primary purpose is to DELIGHT, and we want to think about the price of them so they’re affordable to most everyone.
So, moving forward, our games are going to be priced like beers during happy hour. Or a fancy coffee, if that’s more your vibe. That’s the high level concept. We’re going to make games that are priced like drinks you’d buy for a pal. So Gobsmacked is now $5. And Existential Treads - the game we’re working on now - will be priced similarly.
If this sounds cool to you, high five. Tell your friends. If you grab the game and you dig it, mega huge thanks for leaving a review. We, like everyone who makes stuff in this day and age, exist at the mercy of algorithms and positive reviews are the best way for Steam to start boosting us. Or if you just want to quietly enjoy what we make, that’s fine too. We’re happy we got to add something to your life.
Whatever the case, thanks for reading. You’re all great.
