So I was working on a selection of remaning bugs to do with the "blast" effects in the new magic system. A blast spell is one that sprays out in ALL directions, rather than just one (as is the case with a projectile spell). Since beginning work on the magic system I'd made the blast effects work just like the projectile effects, only they would shoot four projectiles simultaneously in the directions North, South, East and West. This worked well enough for when the player was surrounded and so I left it at that.
But, like I said, last night I was plowing through bugs like I normally do when I thought "I can make this more fun!" and so I slapped together a little A* fill routine which expands out from the player (or the source of the blast, be it a boss monster or whatever). So now, when you cast a blast spell, it literally throws a wave of magic out in all directions at once, hitting every monster within reach of the spell (I made the radius of the blast customizable, so more powerful spells will travel further).
So now, you can stand in the center of the dungeon and - provided your spell is powerful enough - spray an inferno of flames outwards in ALL directions, and it will flow into adjacent rooms (provided the door is open) and hit every monster it touches.
