Welcome to Season 2 of Relic Arena, featuring the Villains Battlepass! This is our biggest update ever! To see all the notes, head on down to the bottom of this post.
Leaders are FREE!
Leaders can now be unlocked by simply playing a certain number of games. We feel this will provide a better sense of progression while also making sure new players don't get too overwhelmed by some of the higher skilled characters. As a result of this, Leader tokens have been completely removed.
Villains Battlepass
Season 1 has finally ended, allowing us an opportunity to improve based on mistakes we think we made with monetization and progression at launch.
PLUS: is no longer a purchasable item in the Store. Instead it will be included with every purchase of the Battlepass and will end with the season. Those that purchased the Year of PLUS can check their armory for a rather large thank you gift.
Early Access Leaders: 3 villains are tied to the Battlepass, which will provide you an early-access opportunity to play them. As with our previous Battlepass Leaders, they will enter the regular pool for FREE once the season ends.
Gifting: you can now gift your RA friends anything found in the Store, including the latest Battlepass.
Leveling: Instead of capping at level 60, you can now level the Battlepass infinitely, with alternating rewards. At level 100 you will be rewarded with the brand new exclusive Rainbow Name cosmetic.
Battlepass Scaling: Battlepass leveling is now easier to progress through for casual players. Lower placements in games are not as punishing and earlier levels require a lot less experience. In other words, just playing games will progress you through it (you don't have to win but winners still get slightly better rewards).
Chests: Going forward, you will no longer receive duplicates in a chest until you've received every guaranteed item first.
Regional Pricing: Regional pricing will be added to everything to everything going forward, allowing everyone to take part in the fesitivities, regardless of location.
White Chapel Campaign
Play as Lagertha & friends in our latest campaign (for Intermediate players) to find out who is on a murdering spree. Who could it possibly be? Beating the campaign will unlock Lagertha the Viking shieldmaiden!
Wonders
Wonders are our newest mechanic added to the game. At the end of rounds 1, 7, and 14 you will be given a choice of 3 Wonders. 3 rarities exist (Rare, Epic, Legendary), and the odds for the higher rarities increase with each stage. Higher rarities offer bigger stat bonuses.
Including the rarities, there are roughly 85 unique Wonders in the game. Let's boil them down to 4 types to make it digestible:
Team buff: These Wonders will provide a very generic stat increase to your team or hero type
Relic categories: Similar to classes in other autobattlers, you can create huge stat bonuses for a hero if you stack a bunch of relics with the same category (categories now show in tooltips for this reason).
Conditional: These will buff a specific hero based on their board position or how high a current stat is.
Wildcards: Mess with the odds of future Wonders, or fuck up your entire game wiith Area 51 (rerolls all your relics, but increases the levels by 1)
All in all, we felt another layer of depth was needed to make games more dynamic. We hope that we've introduced a mechanic that checks that box, but does so in a way that does not make the game more daunting to understand. Depending on your build, Wonders could simply just be a stat bonus that you don't need to think about too much. But on the other end of the spectrum, you can certainly cater your lineup to what Wonders are offered in order to create more game-breaking combos.
Jack the Ripper provides another backline jumping option with a twist.
Of all our Leaders so far, Wojtek has the most unbelievable yet completely factual backstory. Equip an assassin with his power and he will lend his aid. Attack speed and survivability are the name of the game on this latest Leader.
This Filipina heroine allows you to ignore any potential mana issues. She also caters to those who enjoy Ultimate relics.
Al Capone is a hybrid between economy and a caster. Guaranteed free rerolls will certainly help you find the relics you need, while his level 5 permanent relic lifesteal can truly take over a game, as long as the syphilis doesn't get you first.
The shield-maiden herself has been added to the game as our very first Viking warrior. The more damage your selected unit takes, the faster they attack. It's all about melee survivability.
Ivan takes advantage of the new Wonders mechanic. Don't like a Wonder you've received? Go ahead and transform it into something else. By the end of the game if you don't have 10+ Wonders, you're doing something wrong.
10 new relics have been added to the pool. Lets take a look at all the Juicy upgrades.
Freezer (Standard)
Freezer provides a good solid nuke with the potential of stunning after a certain amount of waves connect.
Grappling Hook (Standard)
Grappling Hook will launch you to the opposite side of the board, providing attack and cast range with each hook. The cooldown is reduced each time you are attacked. The Juicy will lower the cooldown dramatically.
Pirate Rum (Standard)
Pirate Rum is a passive ability that lowers enemy's physical armor on attack. The Juicy will activate Blackbeard's parrot, which applies stacks to all enemies and causes the stacks to stay indefinitely.
Plague Doctor Cloak (Standard)
Plague Doctor Cloak is a passive that provides damage over time stacks to enemies when you cast a relic on them. Additionally it provides you with mana regeneration. The Juicy unlocks the Rat Baby, who will proceed to vomit all over the arena.
Scythian Talon (Standard)
Scythian Talon is a passive that allows you to attack twice in quick succession on a cooldown. The Juicy lowers the cooldown dramatically.
Sledgehammer (Standard)
Sledgehammer stuns targets in a line, applying an attack. With a low cooldown, each time it is cast it will deal even more damage during the round. The Juicy applies a second lined stun at the end point.
Tarot Cards (Standard)
Tarot Cards provides a teammate with a buff that will either heal them or give attack damage based on certain thresholds. The Juicy gives a Death card to an enemy, causing them to take amplified damage and then bouncing to another enemy if they die.
Trash Can (Ultimate)
Trash Can is an Ultimate buff for a teammate, providing them with a shield. If the shield is broken through, it will explode on enemies. The Juicy has a chance to drop a dumpster fire on an enemy when attacked, dealing damage over time for the rest of the round.
Vacuum Cleaner (Standard)
Vacuum Cleaner will pull units towards you while also stealing their attack damage. The Juicy provides an autonomous Vacuum that applies the same effect.
Vinyl Record (Standard)
Vinyl Record will produce a sound wave towards targets, dealing more damage the farther away they are. The Juicy will push units away.
Relics Above Heroes
Before battle you will now see equipped relics over your opponent's heroes. This is especially helpful in bot games and single player challenges.
