Writing this on Sunday, it didn't feel like I got a lot done, but looking back I accomplished some pretty significant stuff.
I decided to take the slightly diverted path of creating new environment generation. My three ideas were a fungal forest, an underground lake, and a chasm with a bridge. These would generate intermittently throughout the environment, following many of the same rules as towns and lairs follow.

I'm not 100% sold on the naming conventions and displaying the names in the minimap, but I can revisit that at a later point.
Forests could just use some old code I had lying around, with some light tweaks so it would fit the environment better.

Hello forests, my old friend
It was at this point I realized that mobs have a strong tendency to appear in these features, for reasons unknown. But it might be a good thing, since I think I will add some sort of boon to forests, like being able to find food.
Lakes were a bit difficult, but I was able to reuse a lot of code to make a nice smooth lake shape. Currently the player is prohibited from entering the water, a feature I had always intended to add to the game but never got around to. I might also add fishing in the future.

Lakes are way too cold to swim in.
And finally I put a good effort into creating the chasm with the little bridge. This of course will be a massive hazard to cross, especially if you encounter monsters. You won't be able to walk off the edge, but you will be able to be knocked back off the edge by a monster, making them particularly perilous to cross.

Not quite there yet.
Next week I should be able to finish the chasm and probably push an update, and then I can start on those quests I've been promising. Remember to email any questions, comments, and prayer requests you have to [email protected], or just leave them in the comments below.
