As you maybe know we were a game created for the free-to-play business model, therefore with an economy and components of that particular business model.
We're now facing a completely new phase in the development of the game: we're now finally on Steam, as we wanted since late 2012 when we entered Greenlight, and we have an ambitious development roadmap with great new features coming in the next months.
As always stated, we want to finish the development of the game together with our players: listen to your feedback and suggestions is crucial for us.
During the first week of the game on Steam we modified part of the economy of the game as we've now a different business model: we ask for an upfront fee that helps us financing the remaining development of the game and gives you the chance to buy the game at a very discounted price and be part of our Early Access community, giving us feedback and suggestions on how to finish the game.
We're reading on the forums and in the reviews of the game your concerns about Victory being a "pay to win" game as we still sell currency (Gears Credits) with in-game purchases and on the current balance of the game economy.
Your feedback is very important for us and we now want to modify the game accordingly.
Game Economy Patch
We're going to modify the game economy as follows:
- We're removing the Gears Store from the game: it will no more possible to buy ingame currency with real world cash.
- We're rebalancing the rate of the Gears Credits awarded after each race: you will receive way more GC after every race, simplifying your progression through the game.
- We're rebalancing the costs of cars/items/etc: making them more accessible for everyone
- We're rebalancing the repaint and respec costs of cars: they will be way more cheaper.
- The faster cars in the game (70pi cars) are now available only by finishing the multiplayer career
We think that this will address all your concerns about the game being "pay to win": Victory is a very skill-based game and we think that stripping away the last remains of our old business model (f2p) it's the right decision after a week of testing on players' behaviour in the game and players' feedback on the forums and reviews.
We're releasing this corrections to the game during today and tomorrow, as fast as we can.
Discuss with us on the official forum what you think about this decision and if you have any more suggestions or constructive feedback, go ahead and talk to us now. As, always, we're listening guys ;)
